This position manages oncology Tumor data collection as per the requirements of the American College of Surgeons Standards on the Commission of Cancer. Responsible for registering and abstracting demographic, clinical, pathological, and therapeutic data on all reportable cancers in accordance with established American College/Commission on Cancer (ACOS,COC) standards as well as Texas Department of Health Standards. Ensures that all malignancies and reportable tumors are accessioned into the Cancer Database within the established regulatory timeframe, to create cancer profiles and identifies needed updates to the Cancer Database.
Responsible for the daily management and operations of the Oncology Registry. This includes management of potential registry staff, management of the budget, partner with Cancer Committee Chair to facilitate the cancer committee monthly meetings and determine committee Agenda, coordination of all Commission on Cancer activity, including obtaining initial accreditation, and oversight of all data management activity. The data management component consists of registration and follow-up on all patients with a diagnosis of malignancy and certain benign conditions, retrieval and organization of data items for dissemination as needed for treatment planning, scientific study, and to meet the defined requirements of an approved program in accordance with professional ethical standards concerning confidentiality. The Manager of the Cancer Tumor Registry will lead the team in meeting the goals and objectives for the oncology registry/oncology program, maintain confidentiality of patient information, and represent the department with integrity and with the interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration or related field strongly preferred. Registered Record Administrator or accredited Record Technician strongly preferred. Certified Tumor Registrar credentials required.
- Registered Health information Administrator (RHIA) with supervisory experience preferred.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
- Maintains AHIMA Certificate (American Health Information - Management Association). CTR - Certified Tumor Registrar/eligible. (National Cancer Registrars Association
