Manufacturing Engineer - Rochester, NY $100K / Great Benefits / Relocation Assistance Our client is a joint venture between two global leaders that saw an opportunity to enhance the development and manufacturing of aircraft engine fuel nozzles. They currently employ more than 300 EE's and are in growth mode and have an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer. They will focus on the manufacturing of high precision flow control components such as valves and fuel atomizers. Responsibilities: Monitors and develops processing for flow control components at very tight tolerances in order to meet customer flow requirements. Evaluates flow control component manufacturing processes by conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers, and soliciting observations from operators/production technicians. Develops flow control component manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; and conferring with equipment suppliers. Prepares written and graphical work instructions for the communication of manufacturing requirements to production personnel. Improves flow control component manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout. Assures process control and reliability for assigned areas. Coordinates input and recommendations, and implements changes that may cross multiple teams or areas. Evaluates and suggests improvements to safety and ergonomic issues encountered in flow control component assembly processes. Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and process capabilities, and establishing standards to confirm and validate manufacturing process requirements. Determines root cause of failure using statistical methods (e.g. design of experiment, statistical process control) that may result in changes in design, tolerances, or processing methods. Recommends changes to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to areas of production. Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor standards, and material costs, reviewing production schedules, and estimating future requirements. May serve as liaison to supplier base. Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Presents findings and underlying rationale to team, supplier, and/or customer. Provide concurrent engineering support and recommend flow control component manufacturing methods to the engineering design team. May maintain product and process database by writing computer programs, travelers, operation sheets, and entering data. May keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures, and requesting special service. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing industry networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and/or participating in professional associations. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements (e.g. environmental, safety, etc.) by studying existing and new legislation, ensuring adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions. Shares specialized knowledge with others. Represents the organization on specific projects. Mentors new employees. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. quality, continuous improvement, design, or test engineering). Qualifications: Fundamental knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles and concepts and general business operations. Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and is able to give technical instructions to other facets of the business. Knowledge and ability to manufacture and troubleshoot the manufacturing of parts with very tight tolerances. Ability to troubleshoot the assembly and flowing of flow control components. Fundamental knowledge of valve manufacturing and design. Fundamental knowledge of lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques. Knowledge/understanding of precision inspection techniques and equipment. Fundamental understanding of SPC and six-sigma General knowledge of aerospace industry or similar industry products and legal and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing environment. Ability to use standard business applications software and/or specialized data analysis tools. May be required to develop skills in drafting, programming, and CAD or other computer aided manufacturing systems. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and policies and recommend changes to procedures. Hands-on approach in the troubleshooting of CNC equipment. Possesses interpersonal skills suitable for frequent interface with all levels of the organization. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management. Ability to research and analyze data and develop recommendations or resolve problems. Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement methods to quality and manufacturing functions (e.g. pull systems, process mapping, JIT). Ability to work on a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires thorough identification of factors and analysis of impact. Ability to work with only general work direction and instructions regarding the scope of assignments, determine priority and order of assignments. Ability to manage and delegate low-level tasks. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from team members, team leaders, customers, and regulatory agencies. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal-setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 5-7 years of related experience desired. Fluids background desired.
