Marketing Research Manager
The Market Strategy and Insights Team, Anthem's centralized market research unit, is responsible for spearheading insights that fuel growth for Anthem. The team is seeking a "data scientist" to join them who has experience in the health care or health insurance industry, specifically the Medicaid and Medicare segments. In this position, you will work on the CAHPS survey results and potentially other data sets that become available through marketing, quality interventions, network or customer service surveys. This includes a cross section of departments and the net promoter score data that Anthem uses to measure customer satisfaction across the company. You will work closely with Market Strategy and Insights team members and other data analytic teams to merge survey and administrative data and use these datasets to conduct advanced analyses for the assessment of business opportunities and guide organizational decision making. Using techniques such as logistic regression, segmentation, and CHAID analyses you will predict customer behavior, identify product and marketing opportunities, and forecast effects of product changes while accounting for the complexities of healthcare markets. You will be responsible for gathering data throughout disparate administrative systems for analysis and insights presentation to team members and Medicaid, Medicare and Clinical internal business partners. This role will serve as a bridge between the market research team, other analytic teams, and IT. This position will manage concurrent projects while monitoring progress against the research schedule. Although not required, experience with a research supplier as a data/marketing scientist and/or with a company doing data integration/appends within the marketing research team is highly valued.
The incumbent will work in a matrix organization across all U.S. time zones, contributing and sometimes leading cross functional insight project teams. The role will report to the Marketing Strategy and Insights Director. It includes, but is not limited to:
Being a motivated, energized individual with a passion to change the healthcare industry for the better - for current and future Anthem customers, employees, and Anthem shareholders.
Conduct advanced statistical analyses and act as central information source on analytic techniques, providing technical guidance on analyses produced by the team and external suppliers.
Collaborate and develop relationships with cross functional business teams leading to a deep understanding of business team needs and how to address these needs with valid and actionable analytic insights.
Translate business partner requirements into feasible analytic solutions and structure and present analyses to executives and other key stakeholders.
Quickly understand the flow of information and how Anthems' database applications can be leveraged for market research data analysis.
Develop analytical frameworks, roadmaps, and metrics for the team and broader organization.
Work with insight team members to create compelling and actionable presentations and other communications optimizing data visualization, and identifying appropriate depth/information density based on target audience.
Travel up to 20% of the time

Requires a BA/BS degree; 5-8 years of experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. MA/MS/MBA preferred. Health insurance or managed care experience preferred.

Additional qualifications include:
5 years' experience in an analytics role or equivalent.
B.S. in economics, applied math, statistics or another quantitative field; M.S. a plus.
Intermediate level understanding of common data structures and supporting algorithms (i.e., a 200 level course in computer science).
Advanced level understanding of applied statistics and predictive analytic techniques (i.e., a 400 level undergraduate course or a first year graduate course). This can be either academic or learned in practice (industry, sciences research, etc.).
Knowledge of health insurance market, particularly Medicaid and/or Medicare desired
Familiarity with Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) surveys is a plus
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience and skill in research strategy and design
Data analytic software, such as SPSS, skills
General computer skills, must have solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Familiarity with Qualtrics and Medallia preferred.
Familiarity with Domo Business Intelligence tools to present and disseminate findings preferred
Familiarity with the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) surveys is highly desirable.
