Marketing Strategy, Senior Associate

Capital One is seeking a Senior Associate of Marketing Strategy to drive Capital One’s Commercial Card business forward.  This is an exciting time to join the Commercial marketing team, as we’re innovating our product offering rapidly, actively connecting marketing activities to the sales process, and deepening our content marketing capabilities.

In this role, you will work closely with the product and sales teams, as well as an energized group of multi-discipline marketers, all unified by a common goal to deliver business results for our Commercial Card business. The role is a mix of core brand strategy, marketing innovation, strategic planning and prospect/customer marketing.  The ideal candidate will be capable of informing business strategy via fact-based rigor, structured frameworks, and marketing best practices/ judgment in a manner that is consistent with advancing the segment's strategic objectives.  The ideal candidate will be able to navigate ambiguous marketing challenges, embrace an increasingly diverse and digital marketplace, work across multiple marketing channels with tremendous empowerment and autonomy, partner closely with a rapidly expanding sales team, and have an understanding of key marketing disciplines- digital, social, advertising, events, earned and content marketing.

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with product team and leverage market, competitive and customer intelligence to develop a deep understanding of market opportunities, customer insights and business drivers
  • Drive strategic marketing intent; identify marketing challenges and opportunities for improvement and make strategic and tactical recommendations to deliver against segment objectives
  • Partner closely with the sales team to support sales goals and drive purchase volume through reimagined collateral, leveraging advanced sales enablement technology
  • Manage high-impact marketing campaigns from concept to launch which includes strategy development, briefing marketing/creative teams, managing engagements, communicating with stakeholders, securing approvals, and driving marketing best practices
  • Collaborate with business and channel marketing partners to refine the commercial card value proposition and messaging platform to effectively influence prospects to drive consideration
  • Effectively leverage a variety of marketing mediums and recommend new media strategies/ testing options to deepen engagement with prospects and grow the client base
  • Analyze business results, marketplace trends and consumer insights to inform/ advance positioning, claims, and branding
  • Build targeted product strategy insights to inform the design and development of new product features
  • Leverage light analytics to analyze channel performance for quick-turn optimization
  • Actively lead and participate in design thinking-based innovation engagements to build new and improved products, marketing ideas, and experiences for our clients based on new territories and insights 
  • Provide strategic direction to marketing channel partners for the development of advertising campaigns, web site enhancements, email marketing, and social marketing, along with industry and customer-centric events to support key business priorities
  • Champion use of new approaches to improve and measure effectiveness of communications
  • Manage work through internal processes, tracking jobs and associated budgets against targets

The ideal candidate will be/ be experienced with:

  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Detail-orientated with strong project management and prioritization skills, managing multiple projects, stakeholders, and deadlines effectively 
  • Highly effective communication / storytelling skills, written and verbal
  • Able to partner effectively with cross-functional teams, work autonomously and navigate ambiguity
  • Value prop development
  • A variety of marketing channels (e.g., display, social media, print, sales support materials), with an understanding of how to support events with marketing
  • Strategic and/or marketing plan development 
  • Writing creative briefs and working with creative teams
  • Partnering with research teams
  • Agile methodologies and Design Thinking approaches to solving consumer problems 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience 
  • At least 2 years of experience in marketing strategy, product management or advertising experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree
  • 1-2 years of financial services experience, ideally involving credit cards
  • 1-2 years of business-to-business (B2B) marketing experience
  • 1-2 years of analytical experience
