Meat Managers are responsible for leadership of the department managers, supervisors and/or leaders within the processing facility including Cut, Prep and Packaging. There are many areas in which the Meat Manager must stay involved to ensure a good understanding of the department’s needs such as Systems, Staffing and Equipment. Other areas of responsibility are Food safety, Employee safety and customer complaints and Ensuring High quality cuts at the highest possible yield along with maximizing pounds per man hour.

 

 

  • Responsible for managing the meat production department and working with management to ensure continual operational improvement of efficiencies and effectiveness of the company. 
  • Coordinate with all departments within the organization to establish and carry out operational challenges, maintain qualified personnel in positions that report directly and recommend compensation.
  • Direct, monitor and appraise the performance of all production areas and provide direction on areas of concern or new tasks.
  • Uphold the company’s safety and health goals maintain good manufacturing practices ensure SQF food safety and quality procedures/policies are being followed.
  • Provide input and leadership on decision making issues, review and approve costs in labor, equipment, supplies and other areas as they relate to the overall operation.'
  • Participates as part of the management team to develop business strategies, company policy and company direction.

 

 

  • Assigns duties to supervisors and monitor performance.
  • Morning start up, planned and efficient
  • Daily production planning/scheduling.
  • End of day procedures/planning
  • Monitor Production Overtime daily.
  • Coordinate all functions of beef, lamb, veal, and pork production
  • Review production, boxes, labels, and spice inventories weekly
  • Review all product specifications and inspect finished cuts
  • Review all cutting tests and make sure parent/child list is correct
  • Maintain good safety program practices, insure all employees use proper safety equipment
  • Process all employee reviews in a timely manner
  • Support employee training program.
  • Participate and support all Buckhead/Sysco programs and initiatives.
  • Review production room equipment maintenance with maintenance supervisor.
  • Insure good housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.
  • Insure thawing of product is properly managed.
  • Spoilage control, beef, lamb, veal, and pork.
  • Packaging consistency and accuracy, monitored daily.
  • Review returns, errors addressed and employees trained, review with sales manager.
  • Review department results weekly with company management and President. (Productivity, Profitability, Efficiency, Safety) 

 

 

 

•    High School Diploma or equivalent
•    College Degree Preferred.

 


•    Four (4) years of Meat Processing background.
•    Five (5) years in a leadership role.
•    SQF certification or experience preferred
•    HACCP certification or experience preferred

 


•    Strong ability to communicate and have great interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to maintain confidentiality of pertinent company data or files.
•    Ability to manage a production department.
•    Ability to manage people.
•    Ability to work independently.
•    Ability to perform work assignments at an acceptable productivity level.
•    Bilingual preferred - English/Spanish.
•    Must be proficient in basic computer functions (i.e. Outlook, check email on daily basis. and use calendar). 
•    Basic knowledge of Microsoft tools preferred (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).

 


•    Warehouse, Coolers, cold environment.

 


•    Moving of product up to 25 lbs. to 50 lbs. during the shift
•    Bending and stooping during the shift.
•    Prolonged standing or walking during the shift. 
•    Must be able to work in a cold, wet environment (approximately 34 degrees) for long periods of time.

 

This position is directly responsible for food safety and quality. The functions performed in this position are an integral part of our Food Safety and Quality programs. It is essential that those duties are performed according to all of our programs and policies at all times.
