The primary focus of this Mechanical Engineer is to support design and development of heated composites and pneumatic de-icing products for aerospace applications such as helicopter, propeller, and fixed wing ice protection systems. The focus will be on design and development of new products. A key aspect is introducing new products into production, resolving technical issues in manufacturing with design changes, resolving product quality, responding to customer inquiries in a timely manner, and applying new technologies and processes that will improve our products.
The ideal candidate should be capable of performing technical assignments to support research, development, design, test and other mechanical/thermal engineering activities involving various electrothermal heater technologies, fabrics and elastomers, and mechanical processes, while providing thorough documentation from development through testing. Candidate should be capable of preparing and presenting technical proposals that effectively communicate equipment that meets customer needs. This engineer will be responsible for performing routine engineering tasks and assisting in various phases of major projects where limited experience is required. He/she will receive specific instructions and frequent reviews of work for accuracy, detail, and completeness.
Additional Responsibilities may include:
-Review customer Request for Quotations and other customer-supplied documents.
-Interface with customer and supplier personnel for the purpose of clearly communicating technical information.
-Prepare accurate estimates for modifying existing designs, or developing new designs, from concept through qualification efforts.
-Prepare and present technical proposals that effectively communicate our ability to provide equipment that meets customers' requirements.
-Design equipment that meets customer specifications and regulatory requirements, substantiate the design through test and analysis, and document the design and substantiation.
-Timely release of products to production.
-Support resolution of field service and manufacturing issues
Qualification: Desired qualifications:
-Basic mechanical engineering principles with understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, electrical circuits, fluid flow and structural mechanics.
-Ability to work independently or on a team as required.
-Good understanding of fabrication processes and demonstrated ability to resolve design issues that surface in initial product development.
-Elastomeric and composite materials experience and finite element and/or computational fluid dynamics experience a plus.
Position will require direct contact with customers and suppliers. Travel is required, 5% on average but possibly as high as 15%. Travel may include international destinations.
Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
2-5+ years' experience
