A Mechanical Engineer - HVAC job in Reston, Virginia is available courtesy of Modis Engineering & Information Technology. In this role you will be responsible for the design of HVAC mechanical systems for the following; health care, commercial, education, and laboratory buildings, including existing renovations, retrofits, and new construction.

Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Job Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engineering and design concepts for HVAC, central plant and clean utilities generation and distribution, compressed gases, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Apply their thorough knowledge and understanding about the development of design documents through conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and construction package stages.
Communicate and coordinate with internal and external architects and engineers, as well as client, construction manager, subcontractor, and vendor interfaces.
Develop Mechanical / Utility equipment and construction specifications.
Perform temperature / humidity control / HVAC and utility load calculations.
Develop airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, and classification.
Develop ductwork and piping plans.
Develop building automation system (BAS) control philosophy, details, Sequence of Operations, and plans.
Provide construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction of Mechanical / Utilities scope is executed per the intent of the design, and assisting in start-up of systems when required.
Mentor and foster the career growth and development of junior engineers.
Direct the activities of junior mechanical engineers and design team members.
Develop and manage Mechanical / Utilities scope for project budgets and schedules.
Contribute to discipline related content for proposals (e.g. scope, deliverables, fee, and schedule).
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
A minimum of 8 years' experience in the design of Mechanical Building Systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute project tasks and deliverables and have a strong drive to deliver a quality project to customers.
Proven ability to handle multiple complex tasks and prioritize.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration or PE track with EIT Certification.
Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) is preferred.
Design experience using Autodesk Revit - required.
LEED AP Certification - preferred.
Interest in the application of sustainable engineering practices, including Geoexchange and Solar Thermal.
Demonstrated ability with quick decision making, multi-tasking skills, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, strong presentation skills, and is a team player.
