A Mechanical Engineer - Plumbing and Fire Protection Design job in Reston, Virginia is available courtesy of Modis Engineering & Information Technology. In this role you will be responsible for the design of plumbing and fire protection systems for the following; health care, commercial, education, and laboratory buildings, including both existing renovations/retrofits and new construction.

Mechanical Engineer - Plumbing and Fire Protection Design Job Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engineering and design concepts for compressed gases, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Communicate and coordinate with internal and external Architects and Engineers, as well as client, construction manager, subcontractor, and vendor interfaces.
Perform design, including calculations, product selections, and layout for domestic cold water, hot water, hot water recirculation, sanitary, and storm water systems.
Develop and edit specifications.
Provide construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction of plumbing scope is executed per the intent of the design, and assisting in start-up of systems when required.
Apply their thorough knowledge and understanding about the development of design documents through conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and construction package stages.
The individual shall be knowledgeable of the International Building Codes, Local Plumbing Code and experienced in working with various local and state codes throughout the country.
Mentor and foster the career growth and development of junior engineers.
Direct the activities of Junior Mechanical Engineers and design team members.
Develop and manage plumbing scope for project budgets and schedules.
Contribute to discipline related content for proposals (e.g. scope, deliverables, fee, and schedule).
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering - required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with the development and implementation of engineering/design concepts for compressed gases, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Interest in the application of sustainable engineering practices, including Solar Thermal and heat recovery strategies.
Must be knowledgeable with both International Building Codes, and Local Plumbing Codes.
Experienced in working with various local and state codes throughout the country.
Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) - preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) (or ability to obtain PE quickly) - strongly preferred.
LEED AP Certification - preferred.
Demonstrated ability with quick decision making, multi-tasking skills, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, strong presentation skills with the ability to engage an audience.
