Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and direction of the maintenance team leader the Utility Technician (Air Condition/Refrigeration) installs, maintains, operates repairs and troubleshoots refrigeration, air conditioning and air volume equipment and associated control systems.

In compliance with operating procedures, Company and Government regulations, and current Good Manufacturing Procedures, assures the quality of our products and services are of the highest priority. Will perform maintenance on any equipment or facilities which their skills support in a compliant quality manner. This position is a part of the Utilities Technician work group and will primarily share work assignments within their job grouping within no inherent or "system imposed" limits.

Based on business needs Utilities Technicians will perform maintenance activities including crossing between job groupings where skills are common. Work assignments, buildings, and equipment are not exclusive to any craft, job grouping, or employee. Position may include some responsibility for maintaing significant business systems (e.g. Maximo data, planning, procurement and scheduling) including the authority to assign, coordinate and maintain work for others.

Please Note : This is a Merck Union represented position.

Education Minimum Requirement:

High School diploma or equivalent (GED); AND
Graduation from a recognized/accredited HVAC/Refrigeration school or community college or equivalent programs with at least (6) months full-time emphasis (5hrs./day x 5 days/week) in air conditioning, refrigeration, electricity and associated controls.
Completion of a formal Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Mechanic Apprentice Program.

Required Experience and Skills:

At least three (3) years of the last seven (7) years full-time experience as a journey-person HVAC/Refrigeration mechanic maintaining and troubleshooting industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and associated controls. This includes but is not limited to (a) servicing at least 50-Ton HVAC/Refrigeration systems and/or servicing low temperature refrigeration systems (b) ability to interface with automated building/refrigeration control systems......
The Recent completion of four years on-the-job training as part of a formal HVAC/Refrigeration apprentice program

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Recent experience maintaining centrifugal chillers, cascade refrigeration systems, screw compressors, and DOC systems. Demonstrate proficiency in testing, adjusting, and balancing HVAC systems. Experience calibrating HVAC associated instrumentation.
Experience with low-temperature refrigeration systems.
