This unit offers a holistic approach to pain management. Integrative Medicine is offered to all patients to help with pain, nausea, insomnia and stress. This is also offered to family members who support our patients. Alternative offerings include: breathing techniques, motivational interviewing, aroma therapy, music therapy and guided imagery.

The Medical/Telemetry unit has so much to offer. They currently have excellent team cohesiveness due to shared governance including interviewing new potential team members, scheduling input, exploring medical/surgical unit initiatives, and organization of the unit remodel. The Medical/Surgical Unit will also pay for medical/surgical certification for nurses looking to continue education. The unit also offers reimbursement for chemotherapy certifications, palliative care, and oncology certifications.

The Registered Nurse RN - Medical/Surgical-Oncology provides direct patient care in the acute Med-Surg setting. The patient population includes a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses in addition to care to oncology patients. The registered nurse med/surg oncology administer medications, performs treatments and therapies, assumes responsibility for professional growth, and assists in education and development of staff. The Medical/Surgical Oncology RN participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required) (BSN preferred)

  • Alaska RN License in this state (required)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required)

  • 2 years of medical/surgical acute care hospital experience
  • 1 year of RN Oncology experience preferred
