Medical Assistant will assist VPA Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.
A. High School Diploma/GED
B. Minimum of six months experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care.
C. Medical/Technical Certification or Practical Nursing License a plus.
D. Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record.
A. Prepares daily route and drives physician to scheduled visits.
B. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes vital signs, perform phlebotomy (venipuncture only) as ordered by physician.
C. Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab. Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing. Logs information in compliance with CLIA standards.
D. Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA and HIPPA requirements.
E. Assists physician in preparing for minor surgeries and examinations.
F. Aids in communication and form signing with patient/caregivers.
G. Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment (supply inventory, medical bag and car).
H. Manages company vehicle with regard to cleaning and proper periodic maintenance schedule.
I. Manages gas receipts and mileage.
J. Maintains patient confidentiality.
K. Attends required meetings and in-services.
L. Other duties as required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
A. Knowledge of practice protocols to assist in delivering patient care.
B. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures. Experience with medical instruments and equipment required to administer patient care.
C. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
D. Ability to adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
E. Ability to communicate clearly in the English language.
F. Ability to analyze problems and resolve issues in a rapid, direct and complete manner.
G. Ability to assess importance of inquiry and to assign priority for resolution.
H. Skill in teamwork and maintaining relationships with patients, caregivers and coworkers.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
A. Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients.
B. Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural settings.
C. Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
D. Ability to read and understand road maps.
E. Sit of stand for long periods of time.
