Current Need

Medical Coding Supervisor


Position Description
Duties include sharing the oversight of the Coding department with the other Coding Supervisors, conducting group meetings with the team; maintaining records and tracking information for production staff, i.e., charts per hour, quality averages, conducting performance reviews, counseling, assigning employees to specific duties, planning and forecasting workload on a daily weekly and monthly basis. Direct communication with client managers and at times the client to ensure documentation related to generating a billable patient visit is adequately documented in the Medical Records. Responding to client questions and concerns via phone call and email on a routine basis (and in person as needed).  Direct Supervision of up to 25 coders to include a Team Lead. The Supervisor will work closely with the Quality Assurance Representatives, Auditor, and Trainers. The Coding Supervisor reports directly to the Coding manager.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements
3+years of medical claims experience. Must have supervisory experience. Experience with patient information/claims system processes.

Critical Skills

Specialized Knowledge/Skills – Must have experience in:

Emergency Medicine Professional Coding - Strongly Preferred

Emergency Medicine Facility Coding - Strongly  Preferred 

Hospital Inpatient Coding - Preferred

Hospital Surgery (Inpatient and Outpatient) Coding - Preferred

Hospital Observation Coding - Preferred

Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.  Must be organized and able to multi task.  Good communication skills.  Working knowledge and intermediate experience with Excel (ability to use and manipulate pivot tables), Word and Outlook. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Ability to write reports. Strong ability to speak effectively, present information and respond to questions from managers, clients or employees of the organization. Ability to perform and complete projects in a timely manner. Ability to work the necessary hours to meet deadlines. Ability to lead.

 

 

Certifications/Licensure

 

Professional Coding Certification required:  CPC or CCS-P.  Facility Coding Certification also required: CPC-H or CCS.  RHIA or RHIT certifications a plus.  McKesson SCC Coding Certification must be obtained after hire. 

 

Additional Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of insurance company practices regarding reimbursement and healthcare receivables. Strong communication/problem solving skills. Able to motivate others and work under pressure.

Education
High School diploma/ 2 year degree preferred.
