Summary: The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for Advanced Surgery (AS), within Baxter, is a field-based member of the Medical Affairs team and thus works closely with the US Medical Director and the Therapeutic Area Team for AS. MSLs are highly educated, clinically trained professionals who are involved in delivering cutting edge research support and technical/practical education to Health Care Professionals (HCP). MSLs are responsible for developing, coordinating and assuring implementation of corporate, scientific and clinical strategies to thought leaders within academic, clinical and health care organizations. MSLs are responsible for establishing and maintaining clinical/scientific relationships with medical professionals, researchers, coordinators and other members of the scientific community. They participate in high level training sessions, medical congresses, supporting with provision of scientific/medical information, give clinical and scientific presentations, and participate in sponsored scientific symposia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs to build awareness and ensure safe and effective use of Baxter BioScience products.
-Work with KOLs to identify voice of the customer (VOC), topics of interest to the medical community and in alignment with TA identified scientific interests and provide scientific support to the development of clinical and pharmacoeconomic publications as guided by US Region Medical Affairs and TA strategic plans.
-Serve as primary Medical Affairs contact with key academic and community based medical centers coordinating with Regional Managers and Sales Representatives to help identify potential key medical leaders within specific medical disciplines.
-Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator driven research proposals in support of strategically aligned objectives captured in Advanced Surgery strategic plans.
-Provide product advocacy through facilitating literature searches, slide creation, presentations to various external customers in collaboration with U.S Medical Team and TA Team. -Present approved scientific data to Healthcare providers/GPOs in both group and one-on-one settings in accordance with company policies, applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards.
-Identify and effectively communicate new opportunities/threats that have impact on the product portfolio.
-Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in specific therapeutic area, and in-depth and up to date knowledge of products across the Baxter and competitor portfolios. -Participate in clinical/scientific training of sales team members and other Baxter Functional representatives as allowed by Federal/State Laws and Baxter adopted Code of Ethics.
-Support the clinical organization to enhance patient enrollment in Baxter sponsored clinical trials.
-Provide scientific support at medical information exhibits at medical conferences and meetings. Organize and Chair roundtable meetings as per strategic plans.
-Provide support to the development, planning and management of the Publication Strategy within the Therapeutic Area.
-Train and mentor new team members as appropriate.The successful candidate must have good communication skills, both written and oral. Experience must include thought leader development, clinical presentations and medical education. Must have experience in forming strong strategic alliances with business partners and colleagues and an understanding of the Clinical and Regulatory requirements in a field-based medical organization.
-Must have effective leadership, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.
-Must be able to work independently and within groups in a collegial manner.
-Must be able to travel up to 80% (4 days a week).
-Excellent working knowledge of the Therapeutic Area to be supported is highly regarded.

Education and/or Experience:
Advanced scientific degree is required (PharmD, PhD, MD, OR Registered Nurse ).
5 years in a clinical setting with working knowledge of Surgical Products and OR experience
5 years experienced in field-based pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred
