Reporting to Corporate Logistics, the MANAGER, INBOUND LOGISTICS PLANNING is accountable for successful execution in service and cost for inbound freight load planning from suppliers to Sysco’s RDC’s (Redistribution Centers) and specialty operating companies throughout the USA and Canada. Functional area objective is getting the right product delivered on-time to the right place at the right cost.

The Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous process improvement of the inbound planning function for the organization, effective utilization / optimization of the TMS (transportation management system), and leadership of 4-6 direct reports.

 

Accountable for end-to-end service delivery for inbound freight throughout USA and Canada from supplier to Sysco’s RDC network and specialty operating companies.

Primary operational metrics to include, but not limited to, high 1st time yield rate on load planning, routing guide carrier acceptance rates, percentage load-fill, etc.

Accountable for financial results that are impacted by the inbound logistics planning. 

Primary financial metrics to include, but not limited to, cost per case, LEI (logistics earned income), etc.

Ensures load optimization and carrier strategy compliance via proper utilization of our TMS (Transportation Management System) and leverage such systems to support carrier development, transportation planning, and market logistics management.Subject matter expert on transportation planning. With a constant focus toward CI (continuous improvement), will ensure standards and controls are in place and aligned with industry best practices and associated regulatory and/or compliance requirements.

Fosters collaboration broadly and is expected to have direct involvement and influence amongst internal and external stakeholders, which includes, but not limited to, Sysco Corp Logistics (Systems & Services, Planning, Carrier Development, and Market Logistics), Inventory Mgmt, QA, Legal, Accounts Payables, Finance, Operating Companies, and 3rd party intermediaries (e.g., Carriers). Lead, manage, and develop a dedicated team of approximately four (4) to six (6) full-time professional associates. 

Sets individual and team performance metrics, evaluates productivity, and helps associates create long-term career plans within the organization by leveraging the Sysco GROW and CMP processes.

 

This position resides within Corporate Logistics department for Sysco Corp. and has a contributory service and financial impact to the Sysco Merchandising and Supply Chain Services entity.

The individual will be tasked to upgrade the skill set, effectiveness and efficiency within the department along with building awareness and compliance programs across the organization through people development, process improvement and technology introduction/implementation.

 

Bachelor's degree required.

Preference for supply chain management, business or operations management, international business, or industrial distribution. Master’s degree a plus.

 

Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in business.

Minimum 2 years’ supervisory with direct reports.

Experience in cold-chain logistics, service function within a supply chain organization, etc. is highly desirable.

Prefer 2 years’ experience in project management or structured problem solving methodologies with proven results

 

Specific Training

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is required

Preference for training and use of tier-1 TMS and/or ERP systems (SAP, JDE)

 

Preference for related industry and/or process management certifications from APICS, PMI, ASQ, and/or CSCMP

 

Proven analytical skills required with a solid understanding of accounting and finance principles / practices

Excels in both verbal and written communication, in addition to having very strong presentation skills.  Adaptive communication style based on audience.  Must be comfortable with influencing up, down, and across the organization.

Travel Required: <10%

 

Will carry company issued Laptop and mobile device; expected to have remote access to Sysco systems/servers at all times.

Be willing to work overtime and mandatory days set forth by the organization on short-notice.
