The Cardiovascular & Specialty Solutions (CSS) Group, part of the Medical Devices sector within Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Microbiologist II aligned to Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP), located in Irvine, CA.

The Microbiologist II will work with the ASP Technical Business Solutions Team to design, conducts and interpret biological experiments to support the qualification of medical devices for processing in ASP sterilization and disinfection systems.  May also support new production development programs for terminal sterilization. Reviews scientific and technical summaries regarding medical devices and provides recommendations for appropriate compatibility and efficacy testing of those devices. Performs sterilization efficacy tests involving biological indicators, hydrogen peroxide titration, simulated use and various inoculation methods. Summarizes and conducts preliminary data interpretation, maintains accurate documentation and timely reporting; gives scientific input based on current literature, and documents results in reports for review. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment, operates analytical and other instruments considered standard for area of expertise. Prepares standards, reagents and controls according to established procedures.  Trains other laboratory personnel in execution of validated testing procedures.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required in Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline and a minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Professional experience in sterilization technologies and biological indicators is preferred.
  • Professional experience analyzing functional compatibility of medical devices with sterilization processes is preferred.
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrate the ability to effectively function in a cross-functional team environment and with medical device manufacturing partners. 
  • Strong, GDP-compliant documentation skills required
  • Strong understanding of compliance with applicable laboratory and safety procedures is preferred.
  • A strong working knowledge of QSR, FDA / ISO guidelines is preferred.
  • This position is located in Irvine, CA and will require up to 10% domestic travel.
