The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Exploratory Science Center (ESC) Cambridge, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck and Co., is focused on driving early discovery research. We are seeking an innovative, PhD level Microbiologist to join the Merck Exploratory Science Center (ESC) in Cambridge, MA.
  • Successful candidate will become part of a creative and flexible team that will investigate the influence of the microbiome and microvirome on host immunity and immune responses to novel vaccines with the ultimate goal of delivering novel therapeutics to address significant unmet medical need in multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Manage a group of microbiologists as well as lead cross-functional teams and orchestrate the strategic direction of research programs.
  • Expected to proactively identify and leverage advances in microbiome research as well as new technologies to impact programs.
  • Interact extensively with the scientific community and manage external collaborations to execute on ESC strategy.



Qualifications:
Education:
  • Required: PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related discipline
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of (4) years Postdoctoral or equivalent Industrial experience
  • Experience in Microbiology Research
  • Experience managing a group of scientists
  • Demonstrated ability to lead research teams
  • Ability to contribute to the strategic direction of research programs
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • 15% Travel
Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of host immune responses to vaccination and natural infection
  • Research experience with the Microbiome
