Looking for a company that inspires passion, courage and imagination, where you can be part of the team shaping the future of global commerce? Want to shape how millions of people buy, sell, connect, and share around the world? If you’re interested in joining a purpose driven community that is dedicated to creating an ambitious and inclusive workplace, join eBay – a company you can be proud to be a part of.
The Structured Data Group at eBay is seeking a highly motivated and talented Sr. Software Engineer. We are the Applied Machine Learning team powering the Cross Border Trade on the eBay site. We build highly scalable backend infrastructure to process all of items listed on eBay marketplace and annotate each listing with information about what countries/regions the item should be made available. We also build and maintain the machine translation platform to remove language as a barrier between buyers and sellers and power eBay's global expansion. If you are passionate and self-driven to build services and data driven platforms, we want to talk to you!
More about Structured Data.....
Over a billion items are for sale on eBay - almost all of them new-in-the-box, almost all of them at fixed price – and it is still the best place to go for entirely unique items at auction. We enable millions of people to supplement their income, or go into business for themselves, with little or no capital investment. While we certainly care about our (very healthy) revenue, we also care about the impact we have on the people whose lives we touch.
In order to serve our community of sellers and buyers at an even higher level, we are shifting from a listing-based approach to a product semantic. With a combination of traditional programming and machine learning, we provide sellers with guidance on most effective pricing, and buyers with guidance on least cost. We help sellers post items in less time with greater accuracy and more information. We help buyers find what they want based on the most general or the most carefully directed searches. We show competing products, accessories, and best deals. We move inventory across international borders to balance supply and demand, maximizing sales for sellers and satisfaction for buyers. Everything we do is gradually being done better because it is increasingly based on structured data instead of unstructured listings.
This is a major initiative at eBay, entailing changes across our entire technology stack, from massive data stores to individual user experiences. If you have a background in big data analysis, machine learning, ecommerce, or working on tasks in whatever language is the best fit, we’d like to hear from you. If you want to work at a company that is driven (yet sane), healthy (yet taking the initiative to further evolve), solidly successful (yet still in touch with the people who rely on it and work for it), we’d like to hear from you.
