The Network Security Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, deployment, maintenance and life-cycle management of our internal and perimeter networks. This position will require a proactive engineer who works well in a team environment but can also work independently, working to drive continuous improvement. In addition to excellent network fundamentals, the candidate should also have experience in a variety of information security technologies such as Firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, ACLs, URL filtering and Anti-Spyware.

Responsibilities:
  • Network Security Engineer responsible planning, design, implementation and operations of Shire's perimeter infrastructure devices
  • Assist in continued maintenance and support of all routers, switches, security devices, and wireless infrastructure
  • Provide guidance and technical consulting in support of large scale network security implementation projects
  • Ability to resolve complex problems, design solutions, participate in strategy discussions, and manage technical components of a project
  • Drive technical decisions with set technology standards;

  • Support design changes and planned upgrades to network infrastructure in a variety of campus environments.
  • Install, configure, and support networking and security equipment from various vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Splunk, F5 and others.
  • Resolve complex problems, design solutions, participate in strategy discussions, and manage technical components of a project
  • Collaborates closely with the Cyber Security team to establish and enforce security policies and configurations across network device and firewalls consistent with the overall security posture
  • Develop advanced concepts, techniques and standards
  • Attends and participates in team and departmental meetings providing updates and insight into ongoing projects, initiatives, and incidents
  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation among peer network engineering staff; Act as Level 3 escalation point for Priority 1 incidents
  • Responds to and appropriately addresses support calls, incidents, and requests related to the network and security infrastructure
Requirements:
  • Minimum 8+ years networking experience and 5 years of hands-on firewall engineering activities
  • Experience configuring and managing Palo Alto Firewall infrastructure in an enterprise environment
  • Extensive hands-on work configuring and troubleshooting within the Palo Alto "Panorama" interface
  • Strong understanding of VPN (site to site, remote access client, IPSec, IKE, tunnel modes, SSL, Tunnels between Firewalls) with broad troubleshooting experience
  • Experience in information security auditing practices
  • Possess fundamental knowledge of Network Infrastructure: Cisco routers, switches,
  • Demonstrate in depth knowledge to configure, operated and troubleshoot Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco routers, Cisco Identity Services Engine F5, ASA firewalls, Catalyst and Nexus switches, IPS (Sourcefire), LanCope, FireEye and Splunk;
  • Expert Level using TCPDUMP and Network Sniffers for Advanced troubleshooting
  • Assess and update legacy network components and refresh device configurations regularly; Understand and support design changes and planned upgrades to network infrastructure in a variety of campus environments
  • Develop a solid understanding of Shire business and technologies needed to support them
  • Work compatibly with peer network engineers and other IT operations staff members to understand business requirements and generate effective technical solutions
  • Utilize company change/incident management systems, project management tools and other network tools and technologies as required and subject to change
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including operational procedures, confirmation templates, runbooks, reference materials, disaster recovery plans, and training documentation.
