Trident Health is a multi-facility health system located in South Carolina's Lowcountry, and is part of the national HCA healthcare network. Trident is comprised of two acute care hospitals - Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center - and Moncks Corner Medical Center, which provides outpatient medical services and 24/7 Emergency Services. Affiliated with Trident are a number of physician practices that provide family medicine, surgical services and specialty medical care. These quality-focused entities work together to bring excellence in medical and wellness services to residents of the Lowcountry. For the third straight year, The Joint Commission recently recognized Trident as one of the nation's top hospitals for quality and safety.

Trident Health is offering a Residency Program in Operating Room Nursing! The StaRN Perioperative Nurse Specialty Program is a unique educational opportunity to meet a critical need for Perioperative Surgical Nurses. It is innovatively designed to provide intense post graduate training for newly licensed and experienced nurses interested in working in the OR setting.

The OR Residency Program will begin in February 2018. The program is comprised of a combination of didactic training, hands-on skills labs, on line education through the AORN Periop 101 Course, hands-on clinical training, and clinical preceptorship at the sponsoring facility.

The program will last for approximately six months/24 weeks (could possibly go longer depending on individual progress). The first twelve (12) weeks includes a combination of didactic education, online learning, and hands-on clinical training in the Hospital Operating Room/Surgical Suite. The remaining twelve (12) weeks is spent at Trident Health working with an experienced clinical preceptor.

Learners will be Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified by the American Heart Association during the program.

Upon successful completion of the program the students will be placed in a Surgical Services Registered Nurse role at Trident Health!

The participating nurse will make a two-year commitment to work at the sponsor hospital. The RN Learner will be obligated to repay a pro-rated portion of the educational costs should the learner break that commitment.
