Basic qualifications:
BS Degree in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Nutritional, or related science.
5 years of development science experience in either the Pharmaceutical/CPG industry.
Demonstrated expertise in the formulation and characterization of both conventional and novel solid, semi-solid and/or other dosage forms, including pre-formulation and/or modern analytical theory with hands-on troubleshooting and method development experience and/or proven evidence of delivering new products to market
Scientific leadership skills and a practical approach with significant experience of using experimental design, measurement and interpretation in the development of new products and/or the invention of new systems

Preferred qualifications:
Master's Degree or PHD Degree in related field.
For Master's Degree, 2 years of development science experience in Pharmaceutical/CPG industry.
For PHD, one year of development science experience in Pharmaceutical/CPG industry.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work well with others, and ability to plan and execute work independently with minimal supervision; communication capability should extend to all organizational levels
Demonstrated problem-solving ability using innovative thought and good scientific judgment
Demonstrated ability to apply scientific principles and techniques to assigned projects
Project Management skills and proven ability to handle multiple priorities in an ever-changing business environment.
Ability to lead projects with multiple external parties including contractors, research partners, equipment vendors, manufacturing facilities, etc.

Job Purpose:
The Senior Development Scientist supports new product development with leading-edge analytical, formulation and/or process engineering experience to develop and lead new product initiatives in consumer healthcare including formulations and devices. This position covers a broad range of challenges - from pioneering new technology routes to strengthening existing formulations, validating methods, and establishing networks of external academic collaborators, suppliers and external partners. Develops formulations manufacturing processes and/or provides analysis, characterization and evaluation of material and products at all stages of the development process, taking into account scientific and timing objectives. This position may also serve as an expert in a specific technical skill or area of expertise and act as an R&D representative on cross-functional, global teams.

Key Job Responsibilities:
Works on the development of new products, following requirements outlined in business strategies, taking into account scientific and timing objectives
Applies leading-edge science to develop, validate and support in vitro and/or analytical methods, to support formulation development and provide support for product claims. This may include pioneering new technology routes against agreed project deliverables and timings
Identifies potential opportunities for commercial exploitation
Leads one or more projects and teams in support of departmental plans
Represents NPD and presents project results at NPD project reviews and in other internal forums
Exercises a wide degree of independent technical sophistication in accomplishing assigned tasks.
Independently designs experiments and carries out scientific work with an awareness of state-of-the-art technology
Keeps abreast of, explores and develops new technologies and shares information with his team and Manager
Develops strong, collaborative relationships with other departments/groups and fosters an environment of knowledge sharing
Assists Development Scientists in defining and implementing innovative solutions for assigned activities, balancing achievement of milestones with high quality standards
Sets and refines personal priorities as necessary to remain focused on objectives and project milestones under rapidly changing circumstances
Acts as mentor/coach for junior development scientists
Creates research plans to fit overall project objectives
Performs comprehensive, sophisticated and critical evaluation of own data and data from other scientists
Writes technical papers/presentations to enhance personal, departmental and corporate reputation.
Develops strong external contacts to maintain awareness of developments outside of GSK through trade associations, academia and other professional bodies; strengthen and establish networks of external collaborators within academia, suppliers, etc.
Maintains precise experimental records; issues test methods, validation protocols and reports, writes invention records to protect scientific discoveries, issues project status and other reports
Develops strong, collaborative relationships with contractors to help facilitate completion of outsourced support activity
Acts as a technical leader for resolving problems with internal Development Scientists, Outsourcing Leader and global outsourcing partners
Provides consultation, review and guidance to support product registration.
Ensures adherence to GMP, safety, SOP and other GSK policies and corporate and NPD Management requirements
Looks for innovative and better ways of doing things; actively looks to eliminate non-value-added steps out of processes and procedures
Outsourcing point of contact on global resourcing of development and analytical activities for pipeline NPD innovation projects
