The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP/AGACNP) OR The Physician Assistant (PA) develops and maintains an active practice based on an expanded knowledge base of pathophysiology and pharmacology to provide comprehensive health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with cardiothoracic surgery needs in collaboration with and under the direct supervision of attending physician(s). Additional PA/NP roles include clinical procedures, education, consultation, and research under the direction of attending physician(s) and in accordance with approved protocols.

Education/Experience Required:
  • Successful completion of an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program OR Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • MSN required for Nurse Practitioner Candidates OR BS degree, MS preferred for Physician Assistant Candidates
  • 2 years of ACNP/PA experience in a CVICU, or similar ICU, required
Licensure/Certification Required:
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing RN and APRN licenses OR Current Texas Physician Assistant License
  • Certification as an ACNP/AGACNP by the ANCC and/or the AANP OR Certification as a PA by the NCCPA
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS provider
  • Prescriptive Authority/DEA within 1 year
