McKesson Pharmacy Technology & Services (MPTS) is seeking a high performer to join our EnterpriseRx software development team. MPTS offers an array of integrated pharmacy software solutions for the health care industry. Position Description

We are looking to invest in developing someone that wants to focus their software engineering career in the Oracle database realm. Eventually, all enterprise class software systems have to deal with the reality of persisting and interacting with data. If done well, the system will perform, survive unforeseen events and become a valuable asset. People that specialize in building this into systems early are very valuable in the marketplace and stand out in the crowd of application developers. The types of activities of which we will help develop your expertise include:

  • Designing and coding stored procedures
  • Optimizing SQL
  • Refactoring existing ETL to be more performance and resilient
  • Tuning Oracle
  • Dimensional data modeling
  • Solving problems for our thousands of customers

We prefer that you have some prior exposure and experience with RDBMS and a desire to specialize in the management and manipulation of data to create enterprise class software systems. The Oracle Developer will consult with development teams to build logical data models that support new business needs, work on feature teams to build new functionality that leverages PL/SQL to interact with the transactional database, enhance our ETL processes to do more, faster and work with internal and external customers to get the most out of the data warehouse. This represents a small subset of the opportunities you will have to grow and explore in this role. Success will depend as much on how you work as what you do. You must have strong, fundamental work management skills and passion with the social ability to adapt to the needs of the individuals you will interact with. You will have the opportunity to contribute to building a great culture with talented people from both R&D and across the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in cross-functional feature teams, which may include Architecture, Development, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Project Management, and Hosting Infrastructure & Operations team members
  • Designs, develops and tunes PL/SQL in our high volume database environment
  • Adds new and refactors existing ETL data warehouse processes
  • Analyzes and resolves complex technical issues for Tier 3 Production Support of Oracle databases and PL/SQL in support of ETL batch processes
  • Communicates effectively with business leaders project progress, status and roadblocks
  • Works with remote teams in different time zones or on different continents
  • Passionately seeks continuous process improvement


Thinks critically with the ability to assess and recommend changes to the status quo or new ways of working smarter

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
2+ years database architecture experience

Critical Skills

 

  • Experience designing and developing SQL
  • Understanding of diverse software engineering methodologies, such as agile, waterfall and iterative
  • Experience with UNIX command line and shell scripting

  • Willingness to learn, develop, and contribute in a fun, fast-paced team environment
  • Energetic and passionate self-starter who brings interpersonal skills and creative problem solving skills to the team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce communication that is easily consumable by the target audience
  • Considers success from the team perspective by committing and holding yourself and others accountable
  • Experience in school or current job with RDBMS

 

Education

 4 year degree in Computer Science or related field
