The OU Attorney is expected to be a “trusted counsellor” to management on legal, ethics and business issues. The OU Counsel attorney will be in a generalist role with a commercial focus and will have responsibility for contracts, marketing, labor and employment, regulatory compliance, litigation, ethics administration and other legal matters. This position will report to the General Counsel for Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. This role requires the ability to work well as a member of a team and providing support for a variety of functional groups.  This role requires advance critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret laws, regulations and case law to identify and mitigate legal risk while helping to achieve business objectives.  The ability to apply judgment to determine level of risk that is reasonable for the business to accept and risks that are too great for management is critical.  High ethical standards and a deep commitment to always represent the best interests of the Company are critical.  In the end, the courage to do what is right and ethical is paramount.


This role requires advanced communication skills (oral and writing) with management and front-line employees as well as customers, consumers, government officials and representatives of other businesses.  The OU Attorney must have the ability to provide concise, clear communications appropriately tailored to the audience.


Knowledge of The Coca-Cola Company and/or the Coca-Cola bottling system are desired.

Job Description

The OU Attorney will provide legal counseling on the following areas of expertise:

  • Contracts and Commercial
  • Labor and Employment

  • Ethics and Compliance
Candidate must possess a clear understanding of applicable laws, regulations and policies as well as a solid understanding of the bottling business to be able to anticipate legal issues and provide solutions consistent with business objectives.

The OU Attorney will provide counsel on labor and employment law matters in a way that enhances the flexibility of the business limits legal exposure. Including but not limited to:

  • Development of employment policies, practices and procedures.
  • Development and delivery of management training.
  • Advice on strategic projects.
  • Handling of internal investigations.
  • Hiring, discipline and termination of employee decisions.


The OU Attorney will review and approve marketing and sales materials for compliance issues, including point of sale, coupons, on-air, online and out of home media, sweepstakes and promotions.


The OU Attorney will independently negotiate, draft, and/or revise all manner of corporate and commercial agreements (e.g., customer, vendor, or system) and other legal documents.   The OU Attorney needs to ensure that transactional and general commercial documents address business goals and protect the Company’s interests.


The OU Attorney will help manage the relationship with and supervise the work done by outside counsel where required and make strategic decisions regarding the conduct of legal proceedings (e.g., litigation, regulatory, or alternative dispute resolution).  A key component of this is to ensure that Company resources are deployed efficiently with a view to reaching the best possible outcome the Company without compromising governance and risk-management standards and expectations.


The OU Attorney will ensure compliance with ethics governance standards and policies.  This includes serving as an Ethics Officer and administering compliance with our Code of Business Conduct and other compliance policies. In this role you will also assist in managing processes and disputes with suppliers. 


* Doctorate degree required, preferably Juris Doctorate Degree

* 2-5 years of experience with in-house or private practice law firm whose clients include companies in the consumer goods industry. (Fortune 500 companies preferred)

* Advance English language competencies are required.
