Role Summary:

BHGE has an opening for a Paralegal - Intellectual Property in Houston, TX.

Essential Responsibilities:

+ Directing the administrative aspects of assigned patent and trademark portfolios

+ Reviewing invention disclosures for proper handling and alignment with business units

+ Managing database system for the maintenance of patents and trademarks for assigned product line portfolios

+ Docketing and ensuring the filing of assigned patent and trademark applications and related responses to office actions

+ Preparing required documentation, and communicating with US counsel, non-US counsel, and technical representatives regarding the filing and prosecution of worldwide patents and trademarks

+ Performing and analyzing computer database patent and trademark searches

+ Ensuring compliance with all docketed deadline dates

+ Preparing patent committee meeting agendas; obtaining, assembling and distributing committee meeting materials; assisting with committee meetings; and completing committee meeting action items

+ Order state of the art searches and related tasks

+ Manage annuity and maintenance fee payments

+ Finalize and publish defensive publications using third party services

+ Perform computer database searches and obtain file history documents

+ Performing additional duties as necessary

Qualifications/Requirements:

+ High school or GED required

+ 3 + years of paralegal experience.

+ Experience supporting intellectual property operations in a corporate environment highly

+ Understanding of legal terminology and processes specifically relating to intellectual property

+ Exposure to foreign Patent Policy

+ Docketing experience

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ Must be detail-oriented

+ Must have the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment;

+ Possess excellent interpersonal skills

+ Demonstrated commitment to internal and external customer service required Must be very motivated, a "self-starter", and able to work with minimal supervision

+ Must be able to multi-task

+ With the ability to handle competing and changing priorities

+ Solid time-management skills

+ Presentation skills

Desired Characteristics:

+ Bachelor's degree preferred.

+ ABA-approved Paralegal Certification preferred.

+ Strong PC skills are required with the capacity and interest to master new PC software and applications (Memotech and Excel proficiency highly preferred)
