recruiting for a Payroll Tax Manager in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The Payroll Tax Manager
is responsible for managing the day to day Tax operations including 3rd Party
Tax providers and ensure the accurate and timely tax payments and filing of
Federal, State and Local returns and wage information. Implements and maintains
Tax processes and procedures. He/she provides direction, communicate
requirements and ensure system is compliant with regulatory requirements. He/she
is also responsible for leading all year-end and W2 processing along with
driving continuous process improvements and management of TUBS (Tax Update
Bulletins) and BSI upgrades. Additionally, he/she provides tax and regulatory
guidance to other Specialist groups as well as serve as tax liaison to resolve
escalated tax issues.
He/she must manage his or her
duties with an end-to-end process awareness and attention to upstream and
downstream implications; consequently, effective partnership with peers within
the service center, J&J colleagues outside the service center, and third
party vendors outside the company is critical.
responsibilities include the following:
- Managing Payroll Tax
function and implementing processes and procedures to ensure the accurate and
timely reporting of taxable wages and tax withholdings in compliant with
regulatory requirements. Additionally, providing guidance and prioritization
for process improvements and upcoming regulations.
- Overseeing the TUBS (Tax
Update Bulletins) and BSI upgrades for the SAP Payroll environment to ensure
the payroll system is up to date with all tax regulatory and compliance
- Responsibility for
managing the reconciliations and interfaces to 3rd Party Tax providers to
ensure timely and accurate tax payments and filing of Federal, State and Local
- Managing all year-end
activities and provide guidance and strategy for the processing of annual
income and W-2 statements.
- Providing payroll tax
support to business partners integrated in the payroll process included but not
limited to HR, Benefits, Savings Plan, and Executive Compensation Management.
- Participating in
acquisitions and divestitures providing leadership for tax setup and support.
- Advising the employee contact
center of tax process changes and regulation changes.
- Monitoring and educating
the payroll team of current and upcoming regulatory and compliance legislature.
- Providing input into Payroll
- Responsibility for
maintaining all compliance requirements for Tax processes.
- Assuring that third
party vendors adhere to established service level agreements, and provide
feedback regarding performance.
- Supporting the
development and execution of the SOX Program (404).
- Supporting internal
audits, external audits (PwC) and government audits.
- Liaising with Operating
Companies to discuss escalated issues, policies, procedures and review service
quality and metrics, make recommended adjustments as necessary.
- Maintaining and enhancing
Payroll Tax team performance to improve effectiveness and efficiency and
support strategic direction.
- Developing, coaching and
mentoring a high performance motivated team.
- Setting annual goals and
develop effective career and development paths.
- Encouraging continuous
learning design and implement customer service improvement initiatives.
- Effectively manage
employee performance using established company tools/methodology as well as providing
input into recommend compensation, recognition, transfer, promotion, or other
personnel decisions. Assuring that
company policies and practices are followed, and set an example for team
- Recruiting and hiring
staff as appropriate.
- Performing other duties
minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.
minimum of 5 years of previous
experience in Payroll operations, accounting, or tax role is required.
Payroll Professional (CPP) or other designation is strongly desired
with an ERP system (Payroll modules of SAP) is preferred
with Payroll applications (e.g., ADP, Empower, BSI Tax Locator, TALX) preferred
analytical and problem solving skills required.
