PERISHABLE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Responsible for quality control (QC) processes supporting positive receiving of frozen/perishable shipments, within BJ’s 3rd party frozen/perishable distribution facility in Elkton MD and Orlando FL. Duties include (1) loss prevention/safety and asset protection; (2) adhering to food safety, sanitation and quality standards for stored product; (3) overseeing the inspection of produce deliveries to ensure product adheres to contract and USDA specifications; (4) overseeing food safety and sanitation warehouse audits; (5) administrating all human resource policies and procedures; (6) monitoring budget formulation and expense execution; (7) serving as liaison between third-party consolidator and Home Office management.

  • Manage regional frozen/perishable product QC operations to ensure 100 % accuracy on all receiving and shipping functions. Ensure that QC team-members adhere to all company procedures. Ensure product meets contract and USDA grade specifications. Notify USDA when third-party inspection is needed. Approve or reject produce deliveries on BJ’s behalf in accordance with Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) procedures. 
  • Ensure all inventory and receiving discrepancies are corrected prior to shipment, determine reasons for exceptions and implement required controls to limit shipment errors.
  • Act as a liaison between third-party consolidator management and BJ’s management in merchandising, transportation, inventory control and the selling clubs to resolve all issues.
  • Manage budget formulation and execution, and propose changes to decrease labor costs and increase efficiencies.
  • Provide guidance and communication to all team members to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Hire, train and develop positive receiving team to ensure 100% quality review

 Requirements

  • Minimum education: Associate Degree in Business Management or equivalent
  • Preferred education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or equivalent
  • Minimum experience: 2-4 years management experience in a warehouse or food distribution environment
  • Preferred education: 5-7 years management experience in a warehouse or food distribution environment
  • Ability to travel approximately one week per month to facility in Orlando, FL.
  • Strong experience with Perishables, Meat, Frozen, Produce in a wholesale club/warehouse and/or high volume supermarket environment.
