Performs a variety of procedures to assist in providing laboratory techniques and procedures, including venipuncture, capillary puncture and other blood drawing procedures to comfort patients, as needed. Uses appropriate barrier protection devices such as gloves, laboratory coat or smock. Observes hand-washing techniques. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems. Supports the mission of the hospital in providing patients with the highest quality of healthcare in a caring atmosphere. Assumes responsibility for adherence to all policies, phlebotomy procedures and testing protocols including but not limited to: routine maintenance, documentation of activities, and quality controls. Performs other duties as needed. Promotes teamwork with physicians and other departments.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of a training program in phlebotomy.
Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Experience: Minimum of six months of concentrated phlebotomy experience within the past year.
