As a part of Dell EMC Converged Platform & Solutions Division (CPSD) System Integration and Modeling (SIM) team you will be responsible for working collaboratively with a variety of people across Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Field Sales and Global Services help design CPSD's next generation products and enhancements, validate them, and bring them to market.
As part of the Physical Infrastructure Engineering Team, your role will be to interact with our investor & partner companies to understand emerging technologies & new product releases, and then work with the various CPSD teams to integrate and/or enhance those new technologies into technical designs. You will also be tasked to create and maintain SIM product standards, specification sheets, and engineering drawings. You will be the ultimate escalation point for the engineering teams when a mechanical/electrical issue arises.
As our Mechanical/Electrical Engineer, your role will be to work with our engineering teams to ensure that products do not have mechanical/electrical issues and take corrective action when issues arise. You will also be challenged to investigate the use of current physical infrastructure and determine ways to improve the equipment and/or processes. Another responsibility will be to work with various parts of the organization to design/engineer new products through the concept phase and work with outside vendors to create the initial mock-ups/prototypes.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain physical infrastructure standards, specifications, and drawings\cut sheets documentation.
  • Develop and maintain a system for onboarding physical infrastructure vendors and qualifying their products for use within a CI or HCI environment.
  • Design, prototype and coordinated the production of physical infrastructure accessories to be used within a CI or HCI environment.
  • Design, prototype and coordinated the production of new concepts of products to be used within a CI or HCI environment.
  • Design and prototype improvements to current physical infrastructure products and work with the respective vendors to implement these changes.
  • Work with our investor companies to ensure new products to the CI or HCI can be built in the factory and shipped dynamically to the customer site.
  • Supervise the dynamic testing of physical infrastructure equipment such as cabinets, investor company equipment, and accessories and provide guidance to possible fixes to issues.
  • Design new physical options for CPSD cabinetry including remote monitoring, intrusion detection, video monitoring, energy efficient designs
  • Verify design of cabinet and intra-cabinet layout for the electrical/data wiring as well as proper routing of cabling between CI or HCI devices.
  • Supervise power and thermal testing and commissioning activities to make sure systems are well integrated and working as intended.
  • Create high level designs for Electrical Single Line Diagrams and power / cooling flows to enable Dell EMC manufacturing and suppliers to understand performance and configuration requirements.  Competitive positioning and product design experience for key vendors like Panduit, APC, and Emerson, for their power, cooling and environmental monitoring solutions, and data center product lines.
Other Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors (ME/EE/Technology) or equivalent workplace experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking to large audiences or experience delivering technical training. 
  • Ability to show thought leadership in critical situation a plus.
  • Decisive but inclusive decision making in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with light supervision in a fast-moving environment.
  • Able to prioritize projects and work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Experience working with the US and global patent processes.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • 5-10 years of experience in technology related roles.
  • Experience in a mechanical engineering with new product introductions and existing product optimizations.
  • Experience with the conceptual product design, design for manufacturing, and an understanding of multiple mediums such as: sheet metal, plastic, polymers, etc.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and drawing tools such as: Solid Works, Unigraphics, etc.
  • Experience with the creation and maintenance of product standards, specifications, and drawings\cut sheets.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: data center architectures, cloud computing technologies, converged infrastructure consolidation, disaster recovery, backups, networking, security, and service orchestration.
  • Experience in data center environmental controls and mechanical engineering including one or more of: data center, rack and device power design; thermal design and testing for both cabinets and devices; and rack physical planning for efficiency, maintainability and aesthetics.
  • Understanding in data center tier 1-4 topologies, Uptime Institute guidelines, and ANSI/TIA-942 standards
  • Knowledge of cabling schemes: fiber optic, copper, AC power cords, DAC, BiDi, etc.
  • Other Job Requirements:
