Physical Therapist PRN

Evaluates patients.

STANDARD: Evaluates patients in a concise fashion according to the physician's referral and patient history using clinical examination skills to determine objective findings. Assesses subjective and objective findings to develop plan of treatment with long and short-term goals and reassesses patient regularly.
EXCEED STANDARDS: Demonstrates consistent ability to evaluate patients throughout the hospitals as assigned. Able to integrate various assessment tools into a thorough evaluation on a consistent basis. Able to include a holistic perspective in on-going patient evaluations.

Communicates and works effectively with patients and families/significant others.

STANDARD: Provides goal directed education to patients and families based on individualized needs. Actively involves patient and family members in rationale and course of treatment with emphasis on education and home care including maximizing function, exercise programs, precautions and use of assistive devices. Method of communication is appropriate to maximize patient and family comprehension.
EXCEED STANDARDS: Extends extra efforts in educating patients and family members. Utilizes creative and innovative methods of communication to enhance comprehension when necessary. Is instrumental in creating a positive learning environment for the patient and family by means of quality education materials and well-trained staff.

Communicates and works effectively with other health care professionals.

STANDARD: Demonstrates and facilitates clear communication in a professional, tactful, and timely manner. Shares information willingly. Works with others to problem solve.
EXCEED STANDARDS: Demonstrates ability to promote understanding and resolution in sensitive situations. Maximizes opportunities and accepts limitations in difficult circumstances.

Professional development of self and others.

STANDARD: Demonstrates professional development of self and others. Promotes and participates in in-services, continuing education, seminars, journal reviews, student instruction, and other educational opportunities. Accepts and provides constructive feedback.
EXCEED STANDARDS: Seeks/presents additional opportunities for learning such as: independently organizing in-services, organizing an in-house continuing education seminar and/or organizing a journal club meeting. Is involved with community/national professional organizations. Consistently demonstrates initiative in professional development.


Required - None
Preferred - Previous experience in an acute care, outpatient, or rehab hospital.

Required - Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy.
Valid Virginia Physical Therapist license or evidence that licensure will be obtained within 90 days of hire though a traineeship and board exam.
BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
Preferred - Advanced training in a specialty area related to specific patient populations.
