Job Description:

3M is seeking a Plant Financial Analyst for the US Plant Analyst Center (PAC) located in Brookings, SD or Maplewood, MN with frequent travel to Brookings, SD.

Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Plant Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing primary financial counsel for the Brookings site and advancing the 8 guiding principles of our team. The preferred location for the ideal candidate will be Brookings, South Dakota, but we will also consider candidates located in Maplewood, MN. The Plant Financial Analyst will provide financial counsel to the Plant Manager and reports to the US Plant Analyst Supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop & Deliver Plant Financial Targets aligned with Division Financial Targets
  • Improve our ROI for all plant Capital Investments (AFE-Authorization For Expenditures)
  • Improve the Financial Impact to the P&L and Balance Sheet for all relevant LSS (Lean Six Sigma) projects in the plants
  • Be a contributing member to the Lean Journeys in the Plants and within our organization
  • Provide Insights and Establish Predictive Analytics of Financial Performance to Plant Leadership, Division Finance, & Division Manufacturing in a Monthly/Weekly Rhythm
  • Annual Forecasting of the Operating Plan for the plant and input to other forecasting processes (Divisional Operating Plan)
  • Prepare the plants for the upcoming ERP (SAP) implementation
  • Driving Awareness of Standard Cost P&L/Financial Acumen in Plants
  • Establish the Standard Plant COGS Drivers as weekly/monthly measurements of performance (Manufacturing Variances, Inventory Adjustments, and Spend/Volume impact)
  • Ensure that current SKUs have appropriate costs during the annual inventory revaluation process
  • Improve controls around inventory to minimize correcting adjustments
  • Ensuring Data accuracy at the source, and correcting future behaviors so that issues do not reoccur (5 Whys & Root Cause Analysis)
  • Training of our peers and our clients
  • Ensuring compliance with 3M Global Financial Standards (GAAP)
  • Conducting the quarterly Self-Assessment Compliance process and addressing any risks or concerns with a Management Action Plan (MAP)
  • Be a leader/member on the PAC project teams that are aligned with furthering our 8 guiding principles and annual Goals

  • Standardize best practices across plants

  • Training and development of ourselves, 3M Finance, and our clients

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in from an accredited university
  • Minimum of two (2) combined years of Finance and/or Accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates ability to act as a change agent
  • Five or more (5+) years of Finance/Accounting experience
  • Masters in Business Administration
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to find alternative paths to reach objectives
  • Considers implications beyond own area across functions, businesses, countries
  • Sound analytical skills
  • Solid communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • SAP experience

Location: Brookings, South Dakota or Maplewood, Minnesota
Travel: Will include an average of 30% travel to the Brookings Plant if based in Maplewood
