Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Veterans/Disabled Job Objective: Completes all operations from supplied negative to press ready plates. Works with all plate equipment to produce photopolymer and letterpress plates as required. Trims, mounts, and proofs printing plates as necessary to print scheduled factory orders. Mounts and proofs plates for multicolor jobs and close registration work on both narrow and wide web presses with minimal supervision. Works closely with press department on any mounting issues. Primary Duties: * Documents the correct face and back exposures and washout times of the various plate materials that will result in the proper relief and shoulder angles for various applications. * Works with all required equipment to make and finish press-ready plates. * Utilizes the correct exposure times to make the various polymers that will assure the proper relief and shoulder angle for the various applications. * Inspects press-ready plates. * Must have working knowledge of the plate and negative filing method. * Makes and composes Color Key, paper and film Dylux, and dry press match proofs. * Operates recycling unit, reconditions solvent, monitors new and/or recycled solvents to assure that the correct formulation has been obtained which will achieve proper washout on all materials. * Trims, mounts, and proofs plates on printing cylinders for both flexographic label and rotary letterpress departments. * Cleans plates and cylinders for eventual reuse. * Checks concentricity, bearings, and maintains surface of printing cylinders in good condition. * Performs make-ready on plates when necessary to attain required quality level. * Proofs close register work on mounter/proofer. * Maintains cooperative attitude with coworkers and supervisors. * Functions in various pressroom support duties. * Maintains inventory of all plate mounting tapes used. * Maintains a log that documents all plate remounts. * Retains bad plates and forwards them to supervisor for evaluation.
