Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for a PMO Co-op in the R&D Portfolio Management (RDPM) group to be based in Raritan, NJ with occasional travel to the Titusville, NJ site.  It is preferable that the candidate live within 20 miles of either site.   


Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, oncology, infectious diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, and immunology.


The RDPM team is responsible for highly visible internal and external reporting, portfolio analysis and business insights that help set the future direction of Janssen R&D and drive portfolio prioritization decision making for Sr. Leadership. The key stakeholders of the team are R&D Senior Leadership, R&D Investment Committee, Strategy & Portfolio Management (SPM), Therapeutic Area Senior Leadership Teams, Global Development Organization Sr. Leadership Team and J&J Investors Relations. The RDPM team integrates information and creates insights to support leadership in key business processes such as strategic and business planning.  The RDPM team closely works with key partners in Finance and Global Commercial Strategy organization to drive alignment in a heavily matrixed organization. The RDPM team also provides leadership and support for various strategic initiatives across the organization.


Primary responsibilities of the PMO Co-op in RDPM include supporting the RDPM team in business critical activities such as the R&D Tracker and Portfolio Reporting, while also providing analytical support on various strategic projects led by the RDPM  team members.  Specific day to day assignments include:


  • Complete daily reconciliation of R&D Tracker, ensuring accuracy of Tracker counts, performance categories and qualitative data.  
  • Partner with IT, PMLs, and/or PCs to ensure data in source systems is accurate and reflects team’s latest thinking
  • Extract data from various sources (TDEs, Cognos queries, Excel databases, etc.) in order to analyze and respond to key business questions regarding Tracker and/or Portfolio performance
  • Create first pass of Tracker Weekly Performance Summary report; Troubleshoot data issues and work with IT to resolve;  Identify opportunities to further improve value of report through new or enhanced visualizations
  • Provide analytical support to Tracker quarterly performance summaries and ad-hoc analyses
  • Develop new visualizations and/or dashboards that provide senior management with critical insights on the Early and Late Development Portfolio
  • Maintain quarterly and year-to-date list of Tracker achievements so that information is readily available for Communications, Investor Relations and/or other senior leaders across R&D 

The co-op will have will be held accountable for learning the basic R&D processes and systems (P6) necessary to understand the business and provide support. The Co-op is expected to be proactive in developing new/enhanced ideas/methodology/analyses in delivering critical business insights.  Special projects will also be assigned to implement the long term vision of the RDPM team and addressing the needs of the R&D organization.


This is a full time position and it is asked that the student not be enrolled in more than two classes while employed as an active, full time J&J RDPM Co-Op.


  • A minimum of 3 or 4 year undergrad (Junior/Senior) is required.  
  • Graduate students are also welcome to apply and will be assigned more independent projects commensurate with their level of experience.  
  • Preferred areas of study: computer science/IT, business, accounting, finance, math, statistics, biology, chemistry, pharmacy or engineering.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mastery of MS Excel and PowerPoint applications and the ability to work independently are required.  
  • Previous Co-op experience working within a global project management or portfolio management organization is preferred, but not required.  
  • Knowledge of Tableau software is a plus.  
  • Candidates must be permanently authorized to work in the United States.
