Amgen is seeking a Principal Data Sciences at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA or Research Center in South San Francisco or a tech hub at Playa Vista.
The incumbent will work within the Center for Observational Research (CfOR), report to a Director, Observational Research. This role is recognized as a scientific contributor and is a first or contributing author for papers in peer reviewed journals or for internal reports that enhance the company's mission.
Travel: International and domestic travel of 10-20% might be essential.
Conduct research to the highest standards of the profession
Align research with the product team strategies
Participate in initiatives to improve processes/capabilities within the Center
Manage Center scientists in the product and/or therapeutic area
Contribute to research strategy within the product team and within the Center
Conduct high-quality observational research to support product strategy within TA
Execute safety signal detection and management
Provide safety surveillance across the life cycle of Amgen products
Set annual product-specific and personal goals and provide input into OR department meetings
Stay abreast of the latest developments in the field of OR, data science and drug development and contribute to the field.
Promote OR awareness and understanding and use of state of the art OR methods
Promote knowledge of Machine Learning and use of state of the art Learning algorithms
Communicate significant scientific information to a variety of audiences
Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific and/or observational research/data sciences experience
OR Master's degree and 4 years of scientific and/or observational research/data sciences experience
OR Bachelor's degree and 6 years of scientific and/or observational research/data sciences experience
OR Associate's degree and 10 years of scientific and/or observational research/data sciences experience
OR High school diploma/GED and 12 years of scientific and/or observational research/data sciences experience
Doctorate or Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or Computer Science or other subject with high data sciences content or Medical degree with observational research/data sciences experience
6 years' experience in observational research and/or predictive analytics
Record of publications in observational research or clinical journals
3 years' experience with Medical or Doctoral degree
Experience with the following:design, execution, analysis of observational research studies within Pharma/Public Health setting and communicating observational research information (written and oral)
research to support drug development
observational research project planning and management
working in multi-disciplinary teams
