Responsible for designing, developing, releasing, validating, and manufacturing lithium ion cells for energy storage, aftermarket, and stationary storage applications, oversee material planning and implement performance improvement procedures to reduce production time and cost; perform cell teardowns and utilize electrochemical and analytical techniques to diagnose failure mechanisms; create and validate prototypes for Li Ion cells; develop and release component and material specifications ensuring all designs meet customer and internal requirements; define Li Ion cell product technology roadmaps and strategies for electrochemistry material development and incorporation into manufacturing operations; mentor junior engineers to ensure they gain technical knowledge of lithium ion cell manufacturing processes as well as the corresponding process parameters critical to company operations; support intellectual property strategies with regular cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and legal personnel and departments; analyze failure mechanisms and prevent future failures; develop Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to ensure delivery of quality finished products and processes. Utilize experience with development of Li Ion cell designs for energy storage in OE, aftermarket and stationary storage applications; application of electrochemical and analytical techniques, such as Cyclic Voltammetry, Impedance Spectroscopy, Half-Cell, Reference Cell, SEM, and BET surface area to diagnose failure mechanisms; Li Ion cell mass production; experience with FMEA, DFM to design components, sub-systems, and battery system to optimize manufacturing processes; and , experience working as a Teir 1 Li Ion cell supplier to OEM as related to Li Ion cells/systems/assemblies.
Education and experience requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Material Science, Industrial Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry or related field and ten (10) years of experience in a related engineering occupation. Position also requires experience with the following: ten (10) years of experience with development of Li Ion cell designs for energy storage in Original Equipment (OE), aftermarket and stationary storage applications; ten (10) years of experience with application of electrochemical and analytical techniques, such as Cyclic Voltammetry, Impedance Spectroscopy, Half-Cell, Reference Cell, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and BET surface area to diagnose failure mechanisms; five (5) years of experience with Li Ion cell mass production; ten (10) years of experience with Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to design components, sub-systems, and battery system to optimize manufacturing processes; five (5) years of experience working as a Tier 1 Li Ion cell supplier to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) as related to Li Ion cells/systems/assemblies. Position requires up to 5% of travel to JCI facility located in Holland, MI.
