What you’ll be doing...

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert who provides technical leadership and training to MTS’s and Lab stakeholders with regard to the LTE registrations, end to end LTE/VOLTE Call flow, DNS, LTE architecture in the MTCE lab – for Maintenance Engineering organization. The support will be provided during planning, staging, first office application (FOA), Production issue replication, and continued support to a variety of teams that include Area/Regional Operations, Network Implementation, Product Development, HQ/Area Network Planning, National Network Operations, Information Technology, Revenue Assurance, and other Maintenance Engineering groups in order to fulfill complex business requirements.

(Roadmap, Lab)

The Maintenance Engineer will prime planning, design, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware and software. The engineer will work with Lab stakeholders to develop and implement Lab environment needed for project and initiatives support. The engineer will support VZW MTCE Lab stakeholders and project teams in validating and providing RCA by actively troubleshooting Lab Call processing issues, and also by reproducing production issues in the lab. The engineer will actively manage MTCE lab environments in which they will test and refine new hardware/software before approval for installation in the production environment. The engineer will lead Lab projects and initiatives with to improve Lab Uptime and efficiency.

(Design consistency, standardization and reliability)

The Maintenance Engineer will create and publish functional and technical requirements by working with Lab stakeholders for new project requests. The engineer will fully understand system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs and device-system interactions in order to develop troubleshooting guides to be used by all other MTCE lab and Network organizations.

(Lab Outage management)

The Maintenance Engineer will provide outage resolution oversight. The engineer will act as the central VZW escalation/support contact for IMS/Call processing/DNS related issues when major outages in the Lab occur. The engineer will collect, identify and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact application performance and efficiency. The engineer will analyze system failures and develop short- as well as long-term solutions to address each. The engineer will be responsible for vendor/Internal escalation to ensure minimum outage duration. The engineer will need to be able to work with multiple vendors across multiple platforms to achieve system stability. In the event that executive leadership needs to be involved Maintenance Engineering management will be brought in as a point of further escalation.

(Administrative management)

The Maintenance Engineer will provide administrative management of the monitored products. This management requires the engineer to negotiate Service Level Agreements, Statements of Work and General Purchasing Agreements. The engineer will review vendor performance regularly in order to ensure technical compliance with agreements. When necessary the engineer will be involved in the collection of penalties from the vendor for non-compliance. The engineer will be challenged to minimize the cost of all new capital purchases as well as actively reduce existing vendor expense costs "year over year".

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with SIP and TCP/IP
  • Must have solid understanding of the LTE Architecture
  • Must have working experience with IMS systems
  • Must have working experience with DNS
  • Must have working experience with UNIX/Linux OS
  • Experience with end to end call flows of 3G and 4G Networks

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other related degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years experience in the wireless industry
  • Minimum 1+ year of vendor management experience
  • Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with expertise in End to end call flow and LTE Registration, and DNS.
  • Proven project management, problem solving, and leadership abilities.
  • Minimum supervision over work product. Ability to work independently on routine and non-routine research and reporting functions.
  • Ability to work with Cross functional teams
