Conducts design analysis of problems and products based on engineering principles and manages projects by performing the following.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives assignments from supervisor and/or senior management.
Reviews assignment and determines design inputs and design outputs. May be required to determine these pieces of information from customer purchase orders, order specifications, manufacturing engineering requests or other documents.
Clarifies any unknowns in the assignment requirements by conferring with supervisor, senior design engineers and/or request originators.
Determines resources required for completion of assignment.
Performs initial cost reviews and helps set goals for company financial benefit.
Performs mathematical and engineering review of design inputs to produce the required output. Shall perform review using appropriate design codes, building codes, Ruskin experience and current practice. A basic awareness of the costs of various engineering solutions shall be considered. May delegate these tasks to staff assigned to assist with project, but is responsible engineer for the validity of the design review.
Where engineering review is inadequate or where further confidence in solutions is desired, testing procedures shall be written and tests shall be conducted. Arranges for ordering of prototypes and necessary equipment with laboratory staff.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets design output requirements.
Documentation of all work is expected per Ruskin current practice.
Translates design outputs into visual documents to allow manufacture. Work expected as hand sketches, models and/or CAD drawings.
Uses analysis software.
Basic programming skills are expected to aide in automation of repetitive design tasks and creation of design tools.
Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Engineering. The field of engineering will be determined by the hiring manager based on design requirements for the position. Over ten years of experience.
Position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. The ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community as well as write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Also required is the ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Position requires the ability to work with advanced mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. The ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is a must.
Reasoning abilities required include defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions. Also required is the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
P.E. required for civil/structural, mechanical engineers.
Knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word using MS Windows platform is required. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and solid modeling software (Inventor, SolidWorks) in addition to basic programming knowledge preferred.
10-15% travel required.
