Amgen is seeking a Principal IS Business Systems Analyst to join the multi-site Research & Development Informatics organization at either its Thousand Oaks, or its South San Francisco California campus. The Principal IS Business Systems Analyst will report to the Director, Research Informatics supporting the Therapeutic Areas, Genome Analysis Unit and Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences.
The Research Informatics team supports Discovery Research and Translational Research organizations globally with innovative IS solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. The Business Analyst will be responsible for eliciting IS requirements in working with various scientific teams, developing respective business cases for IS investments, and leading IS implementation projects to deliver value for the R&D organization globally.
The successful candidate will work closely with members of the scientific staff, effectively communicate with senior and executive managers in Research and in Information Systems and work productively on multi-disciplinary teams that include Project Managers, other Business Analysts, Software Architects, Software Engineers, Vendors, Data Scientists and Computational Biologists.
An exceptional candidate will also have a responsibility to build and guide the portfolio in the Target Identification and Validation and Non-Clinical Safety Assessment service areas through effective partnering with key service area client stakeholders.
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems and/or Business Analysis experience
OR Master's degree and 6 years of Information Systems and/or Business Analysis experience
OR Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Information Systems and/or Business Analysis experience
OR Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems and/or Business Analysis experience
OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems and/or Business Analysis experience
Doctorate degree or Master's degree in Biological or Computer Science and 5+ years of experience in agile software development, business analysis, and / or project management in a Biotech/Pharma Research setting, including Academia.
Deep understanding of scientific and business processes and issues in the early Discovery Research phase of drug development, a demonstrated ability to negotiate software requirements within and across business units and an ability to translate requirements to abstract models that can be implemented in informatics and IS solutions.
Possess expertise in a variety of commercial and custom software environments used in early drug discovery activities, and employ that expertise to advise and support members of the scientific staff.
Expertise in molecular biological experimental techniques including but not limited to genomics, proteomics, epigenetics and animal models of disease together with an understanding of informatics methods and statistical techniques to analyze data acquired in biological experiments.
Demonstrated track record delivering innovative IS solutions in a Biotech/Pharma Research setting
Experience with analysis and integration of diverse biology data types, including a variety of genomics and pathway data, in-vivo experimental data, as well as in-vitro data.
Strong written and oral communication skills and sufficient subject matter expertise to be able to communicate effectively with scientific partners.
High learning agility, innovation, and problem solving skills.
