SUMMARY This position will be part of a Biotherapeutic Engineering and Modality Optimization group (BioMedicine Design) responsible for antibody engineering as applied to biological therapeutics across different research units at Pfizer. A successful candidate will have a solid immunology background with demonstrated experience in developing biologics for immune modulation to treat diseases. S/he will also have a thorough knowledge of principles of antibody engineering and methods in primary cell-based immunological assays, project leadership with strong collaborative and communication skills, proactive attitude and an awareness of current trends and technologies. REQUIRED: Conduct and guide junior scientists in multi-color/multi-parameter high throughput flow cytometry experiments using directly labeled antibodies and/or secondary conjugated flurophores and competency in analysis of data using FlowJo software Design, develop and optimize cell based functional assays (immunology assays using primary cells), for antibody screening (e.g. signaling inhibition/activation, proliferation, cytotoxicity) and analysis with software such as GraphPad Prism. Apply robust statistical analyses to data Engineer and develop multispecific antibody modalities to generate combinatorial therapies Serve as a Biotherapeutic lead on projects in a cross-functional team setting and act as a champion for the BioMedicine Design group Act as a liaison and forge collaborative relationships between BMD and other research units and contribute to target validation for biotherapeutic development Contribute to authorship of technical reports for patent applications, IND reports and scientific publications Take active role in coaching and mentoring direct reports. Provide supervision and guidance in day-to-day activities and act as champion to further career development PREFERRED: Experience with antibody engineering in developing immunotherapeutics Flow cytometry based cell sorting and other cell based assays Prior supervisory experience Education and Experience M.S./Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Immunology or a related discipline with 5+ years of research; Experience in academia and/or Biotech/Pharmaceutical environment; A record of significant achievements in research; Scientific creativity; Excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment. Hands-on work experience in antibody discovery and engineering. Experience in project leadership is highly desirable Demonstrated experience in the design and testing of biotherapeutics from discovery to lead optimization Technical expertise in establishment and validation of cell surface receptor binding assays, internalization by FACS, ELISA and other cell based assays Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and ability to achieve high quality results Ability to work in agile environment and adapt to change Excellent communication and organizational skills Self-motivated and adept at regularly delivering towards deadlines.
