Cancer progression is a manifestation of genetically induced changes in the dynamic interaction of many cellular components. To guide precision medicine discovery campaigns at Pfizer, the newly formed Cancer Systems Therapeutics group located in La Jolla will develop cutting-edge systems biology tools to quantify global cellular perturbations induced by oncogenic changes and by small molecules aimed at counteracting such changes. Team members will apply systems biology-based disciplines to identify novel intervention targets with genetic- and chemistry-first approaches and to deepen our understanding of anti-cancer programs under development. We are seeking an expert in systems biology, with sound knowledge of target identification and validation in a drug discovery context. This is an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge methods and contribute to the target portfolios of the disease Research Units of one of the world's leading developers of novel therapeutics. Responsibilities Develop tool assets for dovetailing chemical biology, genetics, molecular profiling, and computational biology discovery strategies to advance a small molecule portfolio Work with and manage relationships with external contract providers Manage the lab and direct associate personnel, and maintain close and productive interactions with the systems biology-related groups throughout the organization Stay current with systems biology technologies including those relating to genome-editing, chemical biology, and proteomics Contribute to building a culture that embraces continuous learning and improvement Help to establish the systems biology group as an integral component of world-wide research development 1-2 direct reports who will be individual contributors. Expected to display strong supervisory skills, providing coaching, development, and feedback for other colleagues. Will educate project team on appropriate interpretation of discipline scientific results. Qualifications PhD or MD/PhD in molecular biology or related field, with significant experience and expertise in systems biology Postdoctoral experience and at least 4 years additional experience in an industrial or academic setting, with experience in project management Track record of innovative and impactful research including peer-reviewed publications, preferably with systems biology relevant methodologies Significant experience with an array of molecular and cell biology methods, including cloning and vector construction, PCR-based expression analysis, and cell-based assays, and expertise in cell culture and lentiviral production Familiarity with bioinformatics and computational approaches to target discovery Experience with managing a laboratory and directing the activities of more junior personnel Ability to effectively interact and communicate with multidisciplinary scientists, both internally and externally; excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills essential Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, propose and develop new experimental approaches Other Job Details: Eligible for Relocation Package Eligible for Employee Referral Award EEO & Employment Eligibility Pfizer is committed to equal opportunity in the terms and conditions of employment for all employees and job applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity or gender expression, national origin, disability or veteran status.
