The Principal Scientist, Translational Immuno-oncology position will be responsible for conducting biomarker and mechanism of action (MOA) studies for cutting edge cancer vaccine and oncolytic virus programs. This includes preclinical discovery research and early clinical biomarker and MOA studies. The position will conduct laboratory experiments to study biomarkers in preclinical models and clinical specimens, and coordinate patient biopsy collection and biomarker analysis conducted by external contract research organizations. The position will also work closely with several partner groups, including preclinical immuno-oncology and clinical oncology teams. The position is located in La Jolla, CA, and will report to the Head of Translational Immuno-oncology for Cancer Vaccines &; Immunotherapeutics. • Conducting laboratory experiments to study mechanisms of action (MOA) of therapies and to identify biomarkers using preclinical models and clinical patient specimens. • Collaborating with multiple internal groups to design, implement, and conduct biomarker and MOA studies. Internal groups include the Oncology Research and Clinical Oncology divisions. • Coordinating work of external contract research organizations that contribute to biopsy collection and biomarker analysis. • Contributing to the design and execution of early clinical development plans to incorporate translational science components. • Strengthening department's overall translational immuno-oncology capabilities and expertise, for example by expanding immunophenotyping assays and employing new methods and technologies. • Contributing to preparation of required drug development and regulatory documents (e.g., IND submissions), being responsible for translational science components. • Effectively communicating strategy, methodology, progress, and challenges to multiple stakeholders and partners, including senior executives and governance committees. • Representing Pfizer at external conferences and scientific events, and publish results in high quality scientific journals. • Working with BSL2 infectious viruses • MD/PhD or PhD in immunology, cancer biology or relevant biological science • At least five years of experience in oncology drug discovery and development, including immuno-oncology experience. • Experience in translational oncology, including preclinical identification and clinical evaluation of biomarkers (pharmacodynamics, prognostic, and response predictive). • A strong record of achievement, including advancement of cancer drug projects and/or publications in leading journals. • Outstanding communication and influencing skills. • Must receive and maintain required vaccinations or provide satisfactory proof of same.
