As the Principal Scientist/Director and Team Leader, you must be a highly motivated PhD scientist with extensive knowledge in cancer biology and a proven track record of innovation in genetics and molecular biology to lead a team accountable for target ID/validation and delivery of drug discovery projects in Waltham, MA. We routinely apply RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9 and other genome editing techniques and screening approaches to validate and discover novel oncology targets, with the ultimate goal of identifying a clear path forward in delivering breakthrough therapies to benefit cancer patients.
Based in Waltham, MA and reporting to the Executive Director of US Bioscience, you will lead a team to utilize existing genetic tools as well as novel technologies and approaches in the target ID/validation space to shape the early drug discovery portfolio and influence the Global Oncology strategy. Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and working knowledge of bioinformatics strategies/tools to support target discovery are essential since you will ultimately be responsible for systematically interrogating a wide range of proposed targets with support from various functional groups e.g. Oncology Bioinformatics and Discovery Sciences. Strong organizational, communication, teamwork, and people management skills are also highly desired to effectively manage the local team as well as to identify and liaison with external academic and industry groups.
Ph.D. in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology or related field 10+ years of oncology drug discovery & target validation experience in a Pharma/Biotech setting Strong team leading, organizational, communication, and listening skills
Capable of bringing people with different scientific backgrounds together to work towards a common goal
Demonstrated success in mentoring team members
Experience in leading successful collaborative projects
Strong publication record & analytical skills Experience in leading and delivering drug discovery programs focused on genetic tumor drivers and/or resistance is a plus
