Our **File Protocols Platform Team** , part of the data access protocols engineering organization, is seeking a **Principal-level Software Design Engineer** to join their team. As part of Isilon’s core product strategy, we enable our thousands of customers to work at a scale that wasn't previously possible by shipping a true clustered file system that can be expanded from a few dozen terabytes up to many petabytes. If you are interested in building complex systems with high quality, and like working in a fast paced environment with smart, passionate engineers we want to hear from you! **JOB SUMMARY** As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will drive the efforts within a development team to deliver product features from initial requirements to final completion in Isilon’s OneFS product releases. Your expertise in security and file access network protocols, open source, UNIX system level design and implementation, distributed systems, concurrency models, file system integration, and IP load balancing will help us create industry leading products for the Isilon Storage product within Dell EMC. **PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** + Develop software solutions on Isilon’s OneFS platform to enhance our customer’s ability to manage multiple petabytes of data. + Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills across multiple teams to obtain requirements, build a detailed design, and provide a high quality implementation. + Design and develop solutions to complex technical problems that deal with high scale, concurrency, and performance. + Contribute to the culture of quality throughout our broader engineering organization. + Share experiences and skills to aid team members in enhancing their professional skills and career. + Possess a strong aptitude exploring new technologies and understanding how to apply them to new product releases and in customer facing support scenarios. **CANDIDATE REQUIRMENTS** + BS in Computer Science or related technical field, and 7+ years industry experience with network or storage protocols, UNIX/Linux systems software development, or related field. + Experience working on multiple product release cycles. + Development of system software written in C or C++. Additional experience with Python is preferred. + Knowledge of object oriented design patterns. + Experience in one or more unit test frameworks. + An understanding of the UNIX operating environment including system configuration, memory management, system calls, and multiplexed I/O. + Knowledge of distributed software systems + Candidates may also possess any of these highly desired skills: + Experience with network file systems or object protocols such as SMB, NFS, or S3 interfaces in shippable software/services. + Knowledge of directory service protocols such as LDAP or NIS, and authentication protocols such as GSS-API, NTLMSSP, or Kerberos. + Experience in working with system level protocols or file systems. + Knowledge of kernel and user mode technologies. **EMC Values:** When you choose our company, you join a diverse world of innovative thought leaders.
