Principal Software Engineer

Azure DocumentDB is a blazing fast, planet scale NoSQL database service in Azure, growing rapidly since its launch. It is designed to support massive scale, with low latency, mobile and web workloads of the next generation of modern applications. DocumentDB is a fully managed, multi-tenant distributed database service, purpose-build for managing JSON documents at the Internet scale. DocumentDB makes a deep commitment to the JSON data model and JavaScript language directly within its database engine. As a NoSQL store, DocumentDB is truly schema-free. We are a small and nimble team inside the Azure Data Group with a team culture that values results, engineering quality, technical excellence, and grassroots innovation. Joining the Azure DocumentDB team is a fantastic opportunity to work with a great engineering team operating like a small startup, and to deliver on our next set of big challenges. As we continue to grow our service, we have many technical challenges in our service health, monitoring and customer facing telemetry areas. It is critical for us to find right ways to measure rich metrics, provide tools/data for diagnostics, gain deep insights into service health and state, and establish the proper operation models to manage the system.

We continue to evolve our customer facing telemetry to expose richer and real time metrics to our customers. These are among the top asks especially from our enterprise customers who want telemetry data for auditing, deeper analysis of their performance, modelling their growth on usage, etc. We have interesting challenges in how we maintain and expose telemetry at scale (petabytes of data), invest in auto analysis of large sets of our telemetry data, invest in anomaly detection systems, automation bots and build systems for SLA guarantee checks (eg. Consistency guarantees we make in the service). In this role, you will also learn about Azure Monitoring and Geneva system, and work on integration with Azure monitoring, Insights and Diagnostics like Azure advisory for the customer assets.

We are looking for: Senior/Principal software engineers with strong customer passion, accountability and drive to enhance customer experience and who work well with partner teams across Azure. An entrepreneurial spirit with a can-do attitude: Self-starter, project finisher and adaptable.
