We are the Linux kernel team at Microsoft, and if you are an experienced Linux kernel developer, this is the job for you! Our team plays a key leadership role at Microsoft by driving Linux kernel technologies, solutions and strategy in Azure. Our team drives new technologies and solutions for Linux into the Microsoft Cloud.

As a Principal SW Engineer, in this role, you will work closely with both internal and external customers, coordinate design and coding across a number of live projects, and partner with multiple independent teams in disparate geographic locations. Our team is responsible for all the Linux kernel work to make Azure successful and make sure Linux is a first-class environment on Microsoft platforms. You will work closely with the Linux kernel community and the Windows kernel teams to help customers bridge the gap between Windows and Linux make sure Hyper-V is the best hypervisor for hosting Linux workloads. You will be working on research and development in cutting edge accelerations and optimizations to power future public and private clouds. You will define and push the limits of new technologies -- working with the latest hardware, the largest servers, and even larger datacenters.

We’re looking for a creative leader like you with the following skills:

• Ability to handle complex cross-group projects
• Strong aptitude in architecting, designing, developing, debugging, and delivering excellent products
• Passionate about partnering with customers

Deep technical expertise in one of the following Linux areas:

• Kernel and/or distribution build, automation and release management
• Kernel storage stack Linux block layer and Linux File Systems.
• Knowledge of Linux SMB client code is very desirable
• Linux security
• Technical passion, terrific problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software development experience
