Job Description
Eaton’s Lighting Division is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join our Lighting Systems team. The Principal Systems Engineer will be based at our Peachtree City, GA facility.  This is a hands-on development role that will directly contribute to the expansion of existing control products and development of our new lighting control products.
 
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
 
The Principal Systems Engineer for Lighting Systems will be responsible for lighting system design and requirement analysis and help flow requirements to various system components including application software, controller, and end devices.  The incumbent will analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to identify the system components and help develop the design and functional specifications for the lighting systems. They will help identify interface dependences between different components of the lighting automation system.
 
 
The Principal Systems Engineer will help provide functional solutions including updates to control algorithms to meet changing lighting systems and customer needs aligned with lighting industry standards and certifications.  The Systems Engineer will lead system risk assessment, DFMEA, and CTQ definition and flow down.
 
 
The Principal Systems Engineer will help define system test setup, scenarios, and help with validating the system. This role encompasses doing recommendations of functional elements of lighting systems for make, buy, and reuse analysis.  The system engineer will work closely with engineering development teams, product manager, business analyst, program manager and field service to help deliver high quality systems and product, using world class hardware and software, rigorous system validation testing, with clear documentation in one of Eaton’s fastest growing business segments.
 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  • Serve as the systems engineer for one or more programs of lighting control systems
  • Analyzes and reviews program and system requirements
  • Propose and review functional system design concepts and solutions to customer and product management requests
  • Leads system risk assessment and DFMEA and mitigation plans for assigned program
  • Leads system design reviews
  • Work with Program Management, Development and Test teams to validate system integration for final program delivery
  • Help evaluate alternative system solutions including third party solutions and approaches
  • Help define system CTQ and flow down
  • Help in defining and validating interface and dependencies between system components


Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Basic Qualifications:
 
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 8 years of experience in broad software, embedded firmware, and/or hardware development, integration, and architecture experience
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership or systems engineering
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or computer science from an accredited institution
  • Master of Science in engineering or computer science from an accredited institution
  • 10 years of experience in broad software, embedded firmware and/or hardware development, integration and architecture experience
  • 7 years of experience in technical leadership or systems engineering
  • Experience with hands-on software development; including requirements analysis, design, coding and validation
  • Experience working with cross functional (product management, program management, field service, development, and test) and geographically dispersed teams
 
 
Position Criteria:
 
  • Superior ability to align engineering solutions with business objectives using various functional design concepts
  • Familiarity with hardware concepts and designs
  • Excellent understanding of project/program management principles including Agile, Scrum, and Continuous Integration.
