Principal UX Designer

As a Principal UX Designer at Capital One Investing, you will help bring our company-wide philosophy of Design Thinking to life as a champion of brand-defining user experiences. You’ll be focused on designing new mobile-first, upper-funnel experiences across devices and contexts, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team that includes engineers, researchers, data scientists and business partners who share your passion and drive for solving human and business problems.

Capital One Investing is changing the way people build and secure their financial legacies. We are empowering customers to become lifelong investors by offering them experiences that blend the humanity of our financial advisors and brokerage professionals with the elegance and convenience of digital investing tools.

Our acquisition of Adaptive Path in 2014 demonstrates how design is at the center of everything Capital One does. Design Thinking is fully embraced from our CEO to the product partners you’ll work with each day. Our Designers have broad autonomy to articulate and execute their design vision based on engagement with customers and data, testing and iterating in design sprints to validate ideas at startup speed — all while maintaining a great work/life balance.

A Designer with an Eye for Detail: Foremost, you’re a UX Designer who designs thoughtful interactions that will delight customers. You obsess about the details. You have a sharp eye for typography and visual design and can create beautiful experiences leveraging existing styles in new ways.

A Customer Advocate: People who experience your designs feel like you really know them. You’re passionate about user research and seek to elevate the customer’s needs above your own preferences.

A Design Thinker: You lead human-centered design activities that frame business and customer problems and guide the creation of falsifiable hypotheses. You prototype low-fidelity ways of solving problems, and design experiences that can scale to serve millions of customers.

A Data Analyst: You work with interdisciplinary teams to find metrics to measure your designs against business needs. You seek out analytics and user testing data to help guide future design decisions, and you iterate on your past design decisions with a focus on continuous improvement.

A Player-Coach: You’re a veteran designer who has done plenty of time in the trenches. Your hard-won scars help you mentor your peers as you execute together – all while staying humble and learning from each other.
