The primary responsibility of the Discovery Immunology Principle Scientist is to provide scientific and technical support for conducting research in the field of autoimmune diseases especially in Rheumatoid Arthritis. The qualified scientist needs demonstrated experience in leading projects to successful decision making, ability to mentor and foster teams to build capacity in novel modalities of drug discovery. Strong ability to communicate key challenges and priorities for projects and teams. Ability to support external opportunities and BD teams to provide adequate scientific support.  Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Utilize multiple preclinical models to evaluate novel therapies in autoimmune models especially in rheumatoid arthritis
  • Perform studies using ex vivo models related to rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune process
  • Interface with external CROs to conduct studies in preclinical models of autoimmunity
  • Lead biology efforts supporting target identification and optimization for drug discovery programs while working with internal and external partners and collaborators
  • Contribute to strategic planning of drug discovery programs
  • Demonstrate excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively document, interpret, and communicate results and data
  • A strong team player

Qualifications
  • A PhD in Immunology or related scientific discipline with at least 5 years of pharmaceutical industry and/or equivalent academic experience is required
  • Post-doctoral training is preferred
  • Experience in either RA and/or leading Immunology discovery projects is required
  • Solid background in Immunology is required
  • Deep understanding of lymphocyte functions, tolerance and autoimmune mechanisms is preferred
  • Experience leading and advancing drug discovery programs, both small molecule and large molecule drugs, in immune-mediated diseases is preferred
  • Ability to simultaneously handle contributions to multiple drug discovery projects is required
  • Previous leadership experience (coaching, mentoring, leading projects) is required
  • Up to 10% travel is required
