ME Product Development Intern Department Description: The Platform & Lifecycle Mechanical Engineering team is part of the Ultrasound R&D department. This functional group is responsible for the mechanical design and development of new Ultrasound products, development of new mechanical architectures and interfacing with various business partners as well as the sustaining of existing products. The Platform Mechanical and Lifecycle Engineering Team is split across 2 sites, Andover, MA and Bothell, WA. This position is based in Bothell, WA. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work with both the new product development team and the Lifecycle team. You will get an opportunity to participate in the product development process. This may include developing specifications, design, implementation, mechanical test and evaluation of the mechanical portion of hardware on which our Ultrasound systems are based. We work directly with our cross-functional and cross-discipline partners, including Industrial Design, electrical engineering, tooling engineering, marketing, clinical specialists, service personnel and manufacturing to deliver solutions which exceed our customers' expectations. Candidate Responsibilities: • Participate in the development efforts of innovative mechanical components and modules for Ultrasound systems used in hospital and mobile markets. • Work with a cross site project team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers and stakeholders to drive products from concept through initial production launch using sound design approaches to meet the needs of our customers and their demanding environment. • Work with senior staff to select materials and manufacturing processes, especially in plastics, castings and sheet metal, that solve problems such as EMI/RFI shielding, thermal management, design for durability and design for manufacture and service. • Use SolidWorks to create 3D models and 2D documentation • Document mechanical development efforts, including requirements, change proposals, specifications, plans, reviews, test procedures, and test reports. • Utilize and maintain an engineering notebook. • Coordinate and support mechanical tests / protocols to provide traceable verification. • Support existing products as needed - investigate and determine root causes of issues and determine appropriate resolution. • Minimum Jr. studying for BSME. • Eager to learn and grow technical skills in an exceptional environment. • Strong collaborative and organizational skills. • A team player who proactively seeks out expertise and advice and input from others. • Self-motivated and able to carry out assignments with limited instruction, recognize problems and take corrective action when appropriate • Minimum 6 months experience with 3D parametric CAD tools; SolidWorks preferred • Proficiency with EPDM and CAE (FEA, CFD a plus) • Ability to design solutions based on a strong command of engineering fundamentals
