DePuy Synthes Trauma is the worldwide leader in the development of products to treat orthopaedic trauma and other bone deformities.  The company is headquartered in West Chester, PA and Solothurn, Switzerland and employs over 1,000 people worldwide.  This position is located in West Chester, PA and is responsible for the US downstream marketing of the Trauma product portfolio.


The Product Director, NA Regional Marketing Trauma will report to either a Senior Product Director or NA Marketing Group Product Director. Responsibilities of the Product Director, NA Regional Marketing Trauma include but are not limited to:

  • Commercial Results - Achieve US business plan objectives of sales, net income, gross profit, inventory and price on an annual basis. Manage expenses within budget. Increase company’s leadership position in the US Trauma market.  Develop and execute strategies to protect and grow company’s #1 position in the US Plates and Screws market and increase leadership position in the US Intramedullary Nail market.
  • New Product Launch Execution - Responsible for leading and executing impactful US product launches.  Specific responsibilities include the development and execution of regional price strategy, US promotional plan based on global marketing campaign strategy, product training plan (sales force & surgeons), sales forecasting, customer targeting, inventory allocation and roll-out plan, sales tools and communication, etc.
  • US Trauma Business Support - Serve as the “bridge” between the US Sales team and rest of the company to ensure strong alignment around company’s business objectives, key strategies, and execution of business plan.  Develop strong relationships with surgeon customers and sales force.
    • Provide “first line” support to US Sales team including technical support, co-travel to support selling efforts, building customer relationships, and gathering of market intelligence. Support sales efforts by participating in sales activities aimed at converting or retaining key customers. Ensure frequent and efficient communication with the US Sales team regarding company strategies, product launches and other key initiatives. Be responsive in responding to requests from customers and sales consultants. Work collaboratively with other functional areas to ensure business issues are addressed
  • Business Planning & Execution - Work closely with manager to develop and execute effective business plans related to business segment / product focus.  Apply understanding of the sales process to create well positioned market messaging that can drive customer and sales behavior and obtain appropriate field equipment investment.  Partner with Professional Education & Tradeshow groups to build promotional plans around key events and provide on-site support. Develop insights into US customers’ products and services needs to provide effective inputs for Franchise marketing portfolio planning process.  
  • Implementation of key US initiatives – Lead and support key initiatives in the NA region including collaboration with Franchise Account Management and Advantage organizations, implementation of cross-selling partnerships with other J&J companies and strategic alliances with external partners, upgrading customer to new technologies and obsolescence of older products.
  • Company Culture and Talent Development - Nurture strong relationships between marketing and sales teams. Ensure the company is focused on meeting customer’s need and be a positive agent for change within the organization. Position typically does not involve management of direct reports, but will provide direction and mentorship to junior members of the team.  

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required. An MBA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive business experience in any of the following areas:  Marketing, Medical Device Product Development, R&D, Medical Device Sales, or a combination of Sales and Marketing is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical device or other healthcare regulated environment is highly desired.
  • Experience developing and executing successful business plans is preferred
  • Prior experience managing medical device product lines, including leading product marketing and setting strategic direction for product portfolio is preferred
  • Experience in marketing and launching new products, services and programs to the healthcare community is highly desired
  • Experience interacting with key surgeon customers and sales force is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills are required
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in a hand’s-on, fast paced, customer focused environment and have a thirst for learning new things
  • This position requires up to 40% domestic travel including occasional weekends.
