Product Manager 4 - Senior Digital Design Architect

Wells Fargo Virtual Channels (WFVC): WFVC serves consumer and small business customers through digital (online, mobile, and social) and contact centers (phone, email, and correspondence). We provide customers with convenient ways to manage their accounts, enable digital payments, provide solutions that meet their financial needs, and more. WFVC serves over 27 million customers through our digital channels and support over 5.8 billion customer interactions annually through digital and contact centers.

The Creative Direction and Governance team, as part of Digital Customer Experience, is responsible for ensuring seamlessly cohesive, accessible experiences across digital touchpoints and customer journeys, caring for internal documentation ecosystems and libraries, creating the standards and guidelines across the Wells Fargo experiences on all device types, and acting as a change agent through both discovery work streams and through experiential governance. The team is looking for a Senior Digital Design Architect to work across the public and authenticated session experiences.

The Senior Digital Design Architect collaborates closely with design, development, and brand teams, and is responsible for creating best practices around digital design frameworks, and design development. Areas of focus include: managing convergence of responsive design, adaptive design, and new coding opportunities to ensure optimal customer experience across devices; serving as a liaison to various development teams on aligning designs for converging framework strategies; implementing best practices around motion and animation; and working across the teams to scout emerging implementation directions in UI and UX.

This role will also drive proactive efforts around implementations of design updates and refinements, in partnership of our development / QA / product management partners.

The person in this role must have proven experience leading experience design and brand related design system efforts in Agile environments across large digital operations. Additional responsibilities are as follows:

  • Strategic focus and leadership for digital design system implementations and prototypes across multiple major product lines and services: Interpret and extend implementations of all practices including visual design language, accessibility updates, interaction design shifts, editorial and content implications. Will oversee overall digital fit and finish efforts, contribute to strategy for cross-practice alignment efforts, converge direction and standards front-end presentation layers based on best practices, and serve as liaison on technical component strategies.

  • Create exploratory prototypes and designs as needed, mentor and collaborate with internal or external cross-functional resources. Conduct collaborative technical problem solving meetings with development / QA / business analysis / platform / product partners. Assess and recommend design standards strategies to support speed in Agile projects. Participate in Agile planning, strategy, and story writing as needed.

  • Connect with best digital practices for digital brand, digital design, componentry, and design tools and best practices from across industries and apply to Wells Fargo contexts. Develop roadmaps for design system alignment based on future internal and external trends.

  • Manage proactive oversight of design programs that influence standards and experience direction of the company – whether through front-end UI changes or through new implementation opportunities. Mentor digital team members on best practices.

  • Oversee work performed by others and serve as a mentor to the direction of the unit while not managing people. Coordinate and influence resources in conjunction with partners and multiple business groups.

Location: Charlotte, NC and San Francisco, CA. Will consider all locations within the Wells Fargo footprint.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of product management experience, product development experience, or a combination of both

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to positively influence, motivate, and direct diverse teams
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital technologies to include strong digital design sensibilities and familiarity with best practices for user-centered digital design
  • Ability to manage large-scale initiatives including stakeholders across business and technical teams
  • End-to-end design experience including wireframes, prototypes and specifications documents
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies: used in waterfall or Agile development projects
  • Experience analyzing trends affecting digital interactive product design, mobile design or responsive design
  • Experience using iRise to complete rapid prototyping
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Other Desired Qualifications
  • 9 + years of design experience
  • Experience in managing complex projects within larger organizations with a mature user centered design methodology
  • Familiarity with design processes that leverage frameworks and libraries such as React, Bootstrap, and Angular
  • Experience with trends affecting digital interactive product design, mobile, responsive design
  • Knowledge and understanding of applying user research (e.g. task analysis, user scenarios) to inform design decisions
  • Understand the subjective nature of decision-making with internal clients, and work effectively as a consultant within a large, matrixed organization
  • Familiar with the role of Content Management Systems in front-end design implementation
  • Practical experience participating, optimizing and socialisting user centered design processes and principles
  • A BS/BA degree or higher in design, human factors or interaction design
